This is my first build thread and my first "play car" that I have had in a very long time, so bare with me. Everything I do to this car will be done in my garage on nights and weekends. I am nowhere near a professional at any of this, so feel free to give me critical feedback as you see fit.
I'll start with a little story:
My car is a fairly rare red-on-red cloth 1994 GT with the 5.0 and T5 manual. The previous owner installed an Eibach Pro Kit, 18X9 FR500 wheels, under-drive pulleys, catted H-pipe, MAC catback exhaust, racing clutch, MSD coil and a few other misc. goodies before parking it for a couple of years in their yard.
Porno Red FTW!:
Enter my father-in-law... He purchased the car as a project that wasn't running and installed a new fuel system and tires to get it on the road. My 16 year old brother-in-law started driving the car while his was in the shop. While in his possession, he managed to sling the back quarter into another car at the school parking lot, curbed the right rear wheel and tire at the mall, and, in his grand finale, tried to take on a Tahoe....he lost.
With the car totaled, I convinced them to sell me the car for $1,100 as it set and I threw on a junk yard fender and lights to get it back to Indiana.
First order of business once I got it home was ripping off the tattered wing and fixing the body work that needed attention:
After a bath and removing the rear wing:
Painting faded tail lights:
During:
After:
Now it was time to tackle the rear bumper and the once Laser Red fender. I used the Duplicolor Perfect Match rattle cans from Auto Zone in both Cardinal Red and Clear. Not a perfect match, but it will do for now:
Removed the bumper for sanding and primer:
After paint and clear:
Finished project, sans a wet sand and buff:
Front fender removed:
Painted:
Finished project:
Obviously the paint match is not perfect and I will probably never be able to buff the finish to the same shine as the rest of the car, but local paint shops are quoting me 4-5k and I just don't have that to throw at the car right now. Looks better than it did and hopefully that will keep me satisfied for a little while longer while I focus on my go-faster priorities.
I'll keep updating as parts arrive and things change. Feedback is always welcomed.
