What is the difference - yes I know one is shaped like an "X" and one like an "H" - and which is better for street application?

purely sound preference.. the H is more muscle sounding, the X is more exotic. Also, the H is generally cheaper. contrary to popular belief, there's no measurable performance difference between the two.

I'm just quoting a artical I found in Modified Mustangs from Nov '05 by Scott Hoag (founder of Mustang Racing Technologies and former team leader for the Bullitt and Mach1 mustang development at Ford)

"One myth prevalent in the industry is that X-pipes flow better then H-pipes... This statement is just not true! In case you're wondering, there is an entire fluid dynamics lesson involved to support this position! Over the years, we've tested nearly every combination of X and H pipe configurations and have found that tube-diameter, catalyst selection and bend shape all contribute to performance. As long as the system is designed with a crossover between the left and right hand exhaust tube, performance will be very similar regardless of X or H configuration."

I can say that I did make slightly more power with a prochamber over my Pypes X but in fairness, the tunes were on 2 different days. Weather/humidity plays a good role is power production.

Go Prochamber or go home.. :)

this is true if you don't mind giving up ground clearance or putting up with drone lol

I lost alot of drone when I changed to a prochamber from an X pipe. I also made a few more HP on the same dyno with the same tune. But on different days. So the gains could have been from the weather.

just because it may flow a lil better doesnt mean its gonna make more power. both x and h pipes are technically called balance pipes. they are both designed to balance the exhaust pulses. by looking at the 2 side by side its obvious that the x pipe better balances the exhaust pulses which is what gives the sound difference. the x pipe is gonna create more of a scavenging effect than an h pipe.

will it make a big difference on a lower hp street car?
no but as the hp increases you will see a bigger difference. especially in n/a combos you will see a bigger gain with x pipes over h pipes.

seriously? If i swapped to an X pipe and got MORE drone i'd probably kill myself. I've heard the prochamber causes more drone so idk, nobody seems to actually know for sure. Just for the record what mufflers are you running, and is your prochamber offroad?

Prochamber is an offroad model, also I have longtubes. The car is running original 40 series flowmasters that are older than dirt. By originals I mean the first flowmaster 40 series to come out for sale.

x pipe for me only. I've had H pipes, I prefer X's over and over, just more aggressive

I'd have to say then your LTs have a lot to do with your experience, I've gathered LTs produce less drone than shorties.
