I am new to Mustangs, but i have been trying to read as much as possible.
I recently purchased a 96 Mustang Gt and plan on doing a complete build over the next year.
Plans include upgrade to Teksid 4v Cobra motor with forged internals and a supercharger. I havent decided what kind of S/C yet...it is far down the road. Im concentrating on the motor swap and build for now. I just want yalls opinions on the differnt road i can take to achieve this.

Option #1..Ive found some 4v Cobra motors that run about $3000 then bring the motor to local machine shop and have them put in forged internals and complete machine work. Then install the Motor into the car.

Option #2..Is to Buy a teksid block and have the machine shop build the motor from the ground up. Then install and piece together all other remaining parts needed to complete the swap.

Part of me doesnt want to buy a motor (esp for 3k) and then buy forged internals and have the block worked right off the bat...feels like im paying twice. But at the same time...if i get the block and have the motor built i dont want to be nickle and dimed on all the small accessories that i need to install the engine.

Thanks

Alright..been doing more searching and reading!!

Possibly another option would be to just buy a MMR 800 2v short block...it would run me the same as a complete 4v Cobra motor. Then i would just get my stock heads cleaned up. This would save me the hassel in making the swap and finding misc pieces.

My goal is a supercharged 450whp street car. In yalls opinion are the 4v heads worth the trouble in my case??

You can make 450 out of a 2v. Just get a PI Motor, build it and slap a big vortech on it and you'll be right there. I believe if that's all the power you want and you want to do it on a budget it would be a much better idea than to swap a 4v into your car.

Yeah im starting to think i can make the power i want with a 2v. My budget is $10,000 for motor and supercharger.
The car is a 96 so its the NPI motor....i think it would be a waste to buy a PI motor. Prob just get a PI intake, port/polish heads, and get blower cams.

If you stick with the non-pi block and add the PI top end, you will be pushing the limits with compression.....it will be too high. If you really want to keep your block, get it machined and assembled with a forged rotating assemply and dished pistons, only then will you be able to achieve an optimal compression ratio to run boost.

Psh if you have that much money buy a wrecked 03 cobra and put all the goodies in your car. You could have IRS if you wanted and you could have 600+ hp.

You threw so may things out there I have no idea what to suggest. Personally you sound like your just going to drive the car, your not going to race it or anything like that SO in that case. Get a hold of MMR if you want or if you want the best shortblock/long block money can buy get ahold of John @ Modular Performance, then talk to Nick @ Modular Head shop, get the heads from nick have them shipped o John and have him assemble the motor and you will have an oustanding 2v which will handling great power and abuse. Stick a blower on there and call it a day. Dont waste money going 4v swap, put it to the motor/blower set up and beat it!
