Ive got a 1998 vert. It came with the premium sound not the mach 460. Ive got the single black grille on each side of the back panels. Im assuming that there are 5x7-6x8s in there. Ive got a set of 6x9s that Id like to use. They are old school with big magnets. Is there just a metal bracket under there that I can modify to fit the 6x9s? Has anyone done this? My car is all packed away for the winter so I cant just look at the moment.

My 96 with mach audio had 6.5" rears and tweeters, I replaced mine with Infinity 6.5" 3-ways, you could probably get the 6x9's to work but you will be doing a lot of cutting, is it really worth it when you can buy new ones in the 6.5" size which will probably sound better anyway

Thanks for the reply. I think the mach system has the box with the sub/tweeter combo. The premium is just a single speaker,6x8 I believe, mounted to a metal bracket. I really just was wondering if there was enough clearance for a deeper speaker or enough meat on the brackets to trim for the 6x9. I would normally just go and buy the right size speakers but Ive had these laying around forever and I figure free is good.

Free is good. And if it is a 6x8 like most Ford's seem to be I'm sure you could prob trim it up a bit. I THINK lol. But as far as depth goes my Camaro was a convertible and it had stupid thin ass speakers in it so the top could go down. I put Rockford 6.5's in it and had to build a spacer (again, free is good) so that I could mount them without hitting the top when it went down, not that I ever had the top down lol

I could never find that happy medium of speaker wattage to head unit wattage and my speakers always sounded bad unless I bought an amp for them. My Grand Am has a killer system in it and it's on 2 amps running like 5k total wattage I believe, don't remember exactly it's been a fat minute since I installed it all, but I don't want any of that in the Stang. So I guess I'm stuck with Mach till it blows lol

I run a pioneer double din with a 400 watt 4 channel amp to my speakers.

I have infinity components in front but could not justify them for the rear since there is so much sound loss in a vert which is why I just went with the Infinity 3-ways for the rear. Everything is Kappa series though and runs through a 4-ch 720W amp plus I recently redid the entire system and ran 14ga wire to all speakers.

Nice what a difference it makes with some quality speaker wire. People truly underestimate the difference
