I have a 2000 SN-95 with the externally balanced 3.8 V6 that needs a replacement engine. The local yards where I’m at have a few 2002 internally balanced 3.8s with relatively low miles that have been “compression tested”.

My questions are:

Other than the usual engine replacement issues, how difficult would the swap be (I already have the old engine out)?

I know that the two motors have different intake manifolds. Would I be able to use my existing intake from the 2000 on the 2002 motor?

I know that I will need the harmonic balancer and flexplate (it’s an auto transmission) from the internally balanced 2002 motor. Will the other brackets and accessories bolt and line up (alternator, power steering, ac compressor, crankshaft pulley, etc.)?

Any other pitfalls you can think of such as sensors, wiring etc.?

This is a California vehicle that will need to pass emission inspection.

Thank you for any help or insight you can provide.
