289 / 302 whats the differance?

like i said whats the differance between a 289 and 302 block??? the 289 block came out of a 65 or 66 mustang! the valve covers say cobra did they have cobra mustangs in the mid 60s? :santa_undecided:

Old 289 blocks are virtually the same dimensionally, but they are not set up for hydraulic roller lifters. You would need to drill/tap the block for the 'spider' retainer for use with EFI 5.0 style valvetrain. That's really all I know - maybe somebody else will chime in?

The 302 block has longer bore skirts than a 289 because the 302 has a longer stroke.
