Re: 2slo95fiveOhs 1994 GT build up from the ground up... update 7/9

quite a bit of progress got done the other day...
I added a small amount of filler over the top of the fiberglass resin to hide any imperfections:

Then sanded it down:

Then a coat of primer to cover it all up:

I still have a few really minor imperfections i need to fix, right now they are barely noticable, but I don't want them to "pop" when
they have paint on them...

An UPDATE finally!!!!
Well while the site was having issues, and I was having trouble signing in, I made some progess on the ol girl..
For starters my old boss (now promoted), made me move my car off the work parking lot, so the car is in my garage now, which for the most part
worked out better.
I took off the A pillars, B pillars, trunk, all interior panels, dash, and headliner.. It was all going well until I found this:
009-2.jpg

Yeah, thats a giant rust hole behind the bumper on the bottom part of the quarter panel.. I was initially pretty pissed, but then I realized that it's better that
I find it now while the car is apart and I can fix it right, then to find it later. So I slapped some bondo on it and called it good... Kidding.. I bought a replacement
quarter panel. (I had a before picture of the chunk of car I cut with it, but photobucket was having issues as it was tonight, so this is the after spot weld drilling:
010-2.jpg

I have about half of the spot welds drilled out on the panel currently on the car. I plan on using panel bonding adhesive to put the new one on. This way I can
replace the rust that exists, instead of bandaid fixing it like a lot of cars running around town.

I also got ahold of a painter finally. He came highly recommended by a few people I know, especially some business owners who have delt with him.
So as soon as I can get this replacement quarter panel on, and the windshield out, she will be headed down for some body work and fresh Sonic Blue.

I mentioned I pulled the dash, but I also scraped up all the sound deadner on the floors and wheel wells. I have over half of the floor sanded down and
coated with POR-15, then I plan on laying down some FATMAT sound insulator I got from a buddy (real cheap) before the carpet and interior goes back in (after paint of course)

Like I stated way earlier, I have a trunk mount battery kit for it.. My question is did those of you who have one mount it length wise or width wise in the passenger rear side of the trunk? I may be mocking that up this week if all plans go accordingly.

And this is all the cancer that was hiding behind the quarter:
1317858731.jpg

A little comparison between new and old.
1317858674.jpg

Next step is to clean and sand all areas that attach to the quarter, and also I will be applying POR-15 to anything that won't see daylight when the
new quarter is in place.
Comments/ suggestions welcome.

Ha. That aint no shit... there's a local salvage yard that is dedicated to only mustangs, and when I went with a buddy who works there to pick out
my quarter panel, I didn't see many others that had the rust that mine did.... When I bought the car I ran the carfax on it and IIRC it was first sold in KC (45 min from me),
and the previous 2 owners lived there.... So I don't know how it got the rust it did... perhaps the prior owners drove it in the winter and failed to wash it in the spring?

I've sadly already been down the road.. The Green 95 GT I first posted, before it went to paint I noticed a small rust bubble in the same drivers side quarter..
Me and a buddy welded in a patch panel into the quarter where the rust bubble was, grinded it smooth and sent it to paint (shitty painters might I add).
Well now, 4 years later, the Green 95 (with a new owner whom I still talk to frequently) has rust running just about the length of the drivers quarter fender lip, all except for this little 2 inch square section where the patch panel was.. 4 years ago I was also a lot less patient, and possibly a lot less mature than I am now... So fixing it right
now that I'm this far is what it's all about...

But on the plus side, now that I am replacing my own quarter panel, the current owner of the green 95 is asking me to replace both of his for some pretty good $$$... (His pass side got hit)... So I may take extra time on mine to learn how it goes, then make several hundred bucks doing two of them for someone else.

Likewise.. I hope that all my time and effort pays off so that my car becomes a fun quick street car, that can still pop the hood and get some attention at local car shows...
Unfortunately all the people I know in the automotive industry instead of giving much advice just give me sh*t.. "whens that car gonna be done" "you ever gonna drive that thing again?"

Ha. yeah I here that.. A lot of the the guys that give me a hard time either have, or have had quick cars.. But most of them rode in my Green car with trickflow top end kit and 4.10 gears, and then I start telling them, "I bought an Strim, head studs, this and that etc... for it" and now I think they just want to ride in the completed result just as bad as I want to drive it....
