Well I picked up a '98 cobra short block tonight and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for the heads and intake. it's been freshened up so it's good to go. What would you all do? I' kinda leaning towards 03/04 heads, and a mach 1 intake. I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible. I also need to know what interchanges. Can I use the '98 timing cover with later heads? Thanks guys

if you're trying to stay cheap, stick with the b-heads with 01 cams and 96-98 cobra intake. not the fastest setup, but cheapest and works fine.

I believe the 99-01 Cobra and 03-04 Mach timing cover is the same as the 96-98. But the 03-04 Cobra timing cover is definately different.

there's quite a few racecars out there with that setup. MMR and edelbrock make intakes for such.

Edelbrock makes for the 2v..

For a 4v carb style intake..KarKraft, Sullivan etc...

But for a nice street setup the factory intakes work quite well.

The Aviator intake (to use along with 99-01 or 03-04 style heads) is considered the "poor mans FR500 intake".

Wouldnt the 99-01 cobra cams be the same? not just the 01? Guess I will begin googling.... never thought there was a difference in any of the cams till the 03-04 termi's. actually I.... yeah googling now.

so found out the 01 cobra cams have an extra 10 degrees of duration as compared to other years. no extra lift. decent for blown applications I would suppose. guess its like the 85 celica gst (the rally celica of the 80's) when compared to a stock turbo 4runner cam.
