Finally decided I want to V8 swap. Decided on the 2v 4.6l. I know that in 99 it changed to Power Improved top end parts and tuning. However I have a 1998 base with the 5 speed manual and already know some things will need to be changed, I also know that the PI set up will require a tune to work in my car. So, what should I do and what would I need to allow PI to work in my chassis? Any recs on tuner software or any guidance on what values would need to be changed in a 1998 ecu for example? Not looking for any performance tuning, just want it to run like stock.

If you are using the entire 4.6 engine, harness and computer, there shouldn't be a reason to tune anything because it is all made for each other. The fuel pump/hander/tank should be different, but I don't know the connector difference.

Get the cluster, key/ignition and ecu from a donor car together and pats won’t be an issue. Your biggest issue is going to be finding a 98 ecu or changing your fuel system. 98 was a weird year, I don’t remember the specifics but ford used a combination of return and returnless fuel system in those cars, among other things. You might have to modify some wiring if using a 96-97 ecu to convert to a true return style fuel system.
