How low of mileage should I shoot for? I Found a 5.4L 2v out of a 2000 expedition with 111,000 miles for $1100. I got another question. I know with the adapter plates I can use my PI intake but my question is what size TB needs to go on this? a 75mm? Or are you all using the stock TB and plenum?

It's kind of up to you dude, but i like to do thing's once. Why put in a 11k engine, then pull it out in a year because it need's new ring's you know? Some people don't mind though.

Well for $1100 I could replace some things. It seems that it would be cheaper to buy 1 with some miles and replace some parts. What would you all suggest replacing/upgrading? Even with 111,000 miles I doubt it will need anything anytime soon. My car has 160,000 miles and its still going strong, runs better than new with some mods.

Me personally. i would find one as cheap as possible, not running, good crank, no window in the block. I would then get some decent forged piston's, and rod's, along with new bearings and an oil pump, have the block honed +.010, throw it together and know that I'm good for 150k+.

As for updated part's, The heads, even pi, are a mojor chokepoint for modular motor's, so I would spend my money there.

Thats getting a little expensive for now but later on that would be a worth while investment. At this point I would be happy to get a good 20-30k out of the engine and I doubt that will be a problem. I'm not going to take it out and beat it to hell. Coming from around 240rwhp I'm sure it will be enjoyable for a while. Still got that question about the TB and Plenum though.

It's like this dude, you don't HAVE to do anything. You would see a gain with the plenum and TB, but most will come from heads and exhaust anyway.

red said he picked up alot with a plenum and t/b... the motors require more air and shows more gain than the 4.6 Still not like 15rwhp or nothing "i don't think" but still nice.

my first 5.4 was a 98 f150 nonPI motor with 80k miles on it and minimal mods. it was insane on the torque and could pull slightly on a 99 cobra with similar mods.

They are 2v, what makes them different is the spinny whistling thingy they put on instead of a normal intake. And about 100 hp.

So the lightning intake and supercharger will fit this motor? The 2v 5.4L? I thought they were the same but I was not positive.

I wonder how far it would stick past the stock hood? I've wanting to go to a cowl hood but I don't want it to be ridiculous. Maybe a cowl hood with a scoop.

Its hard to picture it without seeing it but if the supercharger only stuck past the stock hood 6" I could do a 5" cowl with a custom 2" tall scoop. Oh well I'll make it work.

Sick in a good way? :coolsmiley:

I think so. There are some pics on here of a chick's car that has a lightning motor in her car. I think it looks very good.
