I want to install a off road midpipe on my 95 gts, everything else is stock. The thing that worries me is that once i do this i will be getting a check engine light or something of that nature. is there a way to get rid of this, do i need mil eliminators (if so were would i buy them, only can find them for 96 and up) and what about the smog pump hose connection. is there any negative affects for the car ( like check engine light) that will arise if it is not connected.

You don't need eliminators on the 94/5s. Our cars only have 2 oxygen sensors and they are located PRE cats unlike the 96 and up, so all you have to do is pick whichever ORH/X you want, bolt it up, and be happy.

PS. I installed a BBK OR/H on mine and it had the connection for the smog pump. I don't know if all of them do or not, but the BBK H does.

if you dont have emissions just weld or bent the egr pipe and dont worry about the check engine light
it wont come on.

wow that was a fast response thanks guys.

so just to be clear
1. i only have 2 o2 sensors (pre-cat) so i won't get a check engine light there.
2. the smog pump hose not being connected also won't throw a check engine light?

1.- No
2.-No

id reccomend you to replace the O2 sensors if your car has more than 100k miles.

Yes, replace the O2 sensors! I had 172K on mine and it ran like a dream until i installed an off road h-pipe from Jegs. I must have jared something loose in them cause it ran like crap until i replaced the O2 sensors.

For my smog pump, ive been reading that i should just delete the smog pump(its winter now so maybe in summer) or cap off the hose. although i also read that if i cap it off people are having problems with the pump failing. so what if i don't cap it off and just let it pump outside air and just rig the hose up so it doesn't hit anything, would that cause any problems?

id remove all the lines for the smog pump and plug the holes in the back of the heads... you will need a shorter belt to route around the pump and enjoy the new found space under the hood and the xtra power... my .02

You don't really get any extra power from removing the smog pump. The drag on the motor is negligible.

Paul i must say that you have impressed me with your vast knowledge but this is one point i beg to differ. I know it may have been more from the a\c delete but when i did the smog and a\c delete, it really woke my car up with noticable gains. P.S. i have the summit delete kits for my 95 gt

I'd say you'd get more from removing the smog than the a/c, when the a/c is off it just spins freely. one thing you should know about Paul though is he'll never suggest removing your smog or especially EGR :tongue3: Not to suck his dick or anything though but he does know a lot.

Keep in mind that when you put the midpipe on and plug the smog pipe, you will destroy the smog pump.. And if you don't plug that pipe it will sound like you have a built in duck call. Get a shorter belt while you're at it and go ahead and bypass the smog pump. This is something i learned the hard way.

I just bypassed my smog pump this week. I have no noticeable gains except a new exhaust leak.
I figured it's the tube from the H pipe.

So what you're telling me is that based on your highly calibrated "feel" - the car really "woke up" and had "noticeable gains?"

While that's swell for you, a dyno would tell you different.

Paul.
