Why would a 96 gt not throw ANY codes no matter how many sensors i unplug? The light DOES work as it lights up when you insert the key as normal.

There is not a chip in the ECU and the car pings on anything less then 93 octane.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like a ECU problem. Maybe someone more knowledgable will respond.

I dont know what sensors your unplugging but, how are you determining that there arent any faults, just waiting for the light to come on or actually using a scan tool to check for faults.

The car will check for different things at different times, depeding on drive conditions, speed, coolant temp, fuel level, and a whole buch of other things before it will run a monitor. Some are always activly scanned ( I know on most makes misfire faults are such) So just unplug a Cam sensor and just let it stumble... should set a least a FEW misfires and if you have a scan tool, just sit back and watch them count up hahaha

no codes come up with a ODBII handheld scanner. Any other mustang i've owned will throw a check engine light the second a critical sensor is unplugged. i.e. mass-air sensor, coilpack, egr, o2 etc.

not this car though...

the car idles an drives great and feels pretty peppy for an automatic except the shifts are too smooth, almost slipping. I'm trying to figure out if the car not throwing codes could be a bad ECU which, in turn, could be affecting the transmission due to the fact that it is computer controlled. The fluid is not burnt and still bright red.

I have owned the car for 6 months now and it has always done this, BTW this is not my DD car

Sometimes they pop up immediately, sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it takes a day or more...

What are you unplugging? And what are you using to check for codes? A Autozone type scanner?

an actron obdII scanner is all i have.

I just went and let it idle for 5 minutes and unplugged the mass air, IAT and TPS sensors at once with no light. sensors were unplugged just after startup.

I then shut the car off and unplugged a coilpack and restarted and let it idle for no more than a minute with no light.

the coilpack should without a doubt throw a code instantly

unplug the o2 sensors in your exhaust and drive it for 5 minutes. mine doesnt come on when it is idling for a short time, but once i get it out, it lights up.

Oh well, so much for my last comment, glad you got it fixed
