No, and why rebuild a low milage engine? How low of milage is it? I have used these engines out of the truck and swap cam and timing set, put MAC P headers on the P headed ones, and swap throttle bodies and go with it. We had one on the dyno and with a stock cam it made 300 rwhp. NO CRAP. Of course it had long tube headers, cai, mass air, injectors, throttle body and spacer eliminator and a true cobra intake, but I about fell down when I saw it. He is on a board called StangBangerz.com based out of Cincinnati. His name is Kurt. He can tell you his setup better than I can. I just helped him tune it a little and ran the dyno. I was a believer after that.
Just swap cams and go with it. Is it for sure a GT40 engine, or is it the P heads? Either way they are both good. Kurt had the P motor, we've gotten more power out of the P than the std gt40's for some reason, think it's the smaller combustion chamber on the P's that helps it out more.
Hey,
My motor has around 120K on it, The Explorer has 89k, My block was rebuilt about 70K ago, I am not sure but I think my rear main is leaking, cause the old guy they owned and rebuild the motor, used olde gaskets and crap, I've already had to replace the intake gaskets, cause it was leaking oil. I did a search and that explorer motor was only listed as 210 HP, So I don't see how he got 300 RWH, I have an e-cam in my 94 GT, that will be pulled over to the new motor..I havn't decided what to do, all i do know is this motor is complete, and very cheap, I was thinking of pulling all the GT40 stuff off and installing it all my block. But if I can just install this motor in my car, I might just swap the cams, and my pullies, and my CAI, and see what happens?, will my 94 PC run this motor?.
Thanks
well, let me see. You seem to want hard proof. Well NMRA has a class called Factory Stock. You are only allowed P or GT40 heads, most run P's, no porting, stock cam, Cobra Or P intake, 70mm throttle body, flat top pistons, 1.7 rockers, stock K member, stock springs, drag radials, 80mm mass air, no lightweight items in the engine, like titanium or other trick materials, 5 speed, and they run mid to low 11's. Most make in the 350 to 360 rwhp range with that combo. Just because the factory rates it at something, doesn't mean with the proper surrounding mods, it won't make more power. That's like saying your stock engine only made 210, so that's all it will ever make. lol.
His car makes that power, I saw it, he is quite easy to talk to about his combo, he has a long block that is out of an explorer with 50k or lower milage, and put a cobra intake, stock cam, 1.7 rockers, and the other suporting mods I said. Try it and see, or just bury your head in the sand and say no it's not true, no it can't work, leave me alone! lol j/k.
