Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any input on my A/C issue. My 95 GT's A/C stopped working recently and when I turned it on it would just blow what seemed like the outside temp air (warm/hot). Since I purchased the car about 3 years ago and it is at 197,000 miles I figured it would be low on refrigerant. I purchased one of the refrigerant cans and attmpted to fill from the low side just under the strut bar on the passenger side. It did not seem to take any refrigerant as there seemed to be alot of pressure and oil blow back when attaching the line. I read from another forum that the vehicle's compressor needed to be running and I realized it was not coming on. So I tried to jump the compressor by accessing what I think is the low pressure switch on top of black round like canister by the firewall on the passenger side. The technique that was discribed called to remove the electrical conector from the top and run a wire to both terminals with the car running and A/C on max the compressor should come on and you would get that distinct drop in RPM that typically let you know your A/C just kicked on. Well I tried it and nothing kicked on and the air comming from the vents still blows warm/hot. All the fuses are good and everything seems to be rotating like it should and I have been driving it regularly for the last couple of weeks with the A/C still not operating :dontknow:.

If anyone has any ideas that can help me pinpoint the problem or a check that I have not done please let me know.

Thanks

The relay in the ccrm may have gone south on you.
Run some voltage tests for input and output from the wiring diagram in the back of your haynes manual.

before you tried to refill the system did you check how much freon was in there?

does the clutch spins or just the pulley?

Thanks guys. I suspect it is the compressor but I will have to wait some time before I can look at replacing it. I looked at the cost of a replacement part and it was over $250.

I had a problem quite the same, my a/c didn't work when I bought the car. Then magically out of the blue, it started working for 2 weeks before it quit on me again. My system has freon in it, but the compressor just isn't kicking on.

the a/c compressor will not come on if the charge is not sufficent. also you needto check pressures with a/c stuff with a set of manifold gauges. i checked mine last week and during it i put a small charge on the system to check for leaks and found a hose that runs down from the accumulator on the passengerside was split.

When I bought my car the ac didn't work either. If you have a free day and the right tools to do the job it'll be well worth it. I bought all my parts at rock auto. If your compressor is bad and you want to fix it you'll need to additionally buy a drier/accumulator, and a liquid line (that has the orifice tube in it).

It's really not that bad of a job to do, except when you get to dismantling the spring locks. Mine felt as though they were rusted shut. its also a good idea to put new o-rings on and oil up all the parts you replace.

It's been about 5 months since the repair and I can reach 35 deg at night and in the 40's on the drive home.
