So I installed my longtubes and x pipe the other night. I decided to ride to the gym and see how they sounded Well on the way back I decide to get into it some. Well before it makes it to 3000rpm I hear a BOOM! lose all power and pull to the road side. I decided to see what caused the noise and realized that my balancer has broken at the hub and the crank had shoved itself forward. Well After sitting there for about and hour with a nice police fella my parents and a tow truck show up. I get it to the house and go on to to bed, figure it isnt going anywhere. I get up this morning to find out what happened. Ill let the pictures tell the rest.

Going to the boneyard Tuesday to pull an exploder(haha) motor. I figure if the block motor is clean I can at least sell the topend to pay for the motor itself. Put my accessories on(given they aren't hurt), and check bearings and such and put it in the car.

Thanks, the local yard has several 5.0's that I know of so yea. Just sucks. Im fairly certain the crank is gonna be cracked once I tear her down.

If the mounts caused the problem then I FEEL I had other underlying issues.

They were in the car a total of roughly 45 minutes with the car running. The balancer was about a week old, replaced the old one due to off moto shake.

Thanks Paul, this kinda sucks at the moment for sarcasm. Handz your humorous Ill let it slide ha. It was just a reman unit. But I believe the crank went first. I cant blame the balancer. I honestly am not sure what caused it to happen. I was gonna put the factory rubber mounts back in once I got home cause I didn't like how they felt. Well I didn't make it home, and now I would be willing the think the mounts weren't the cause for the vibration.

Catastrophic failure like this on a relatively stock motor is extremely unusual. Probably a bad balancer that was driven on for way too long, started a stress fracture, which eventually caused the failure.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get a new motor, stick it in there, and make sure your balancer is in good shape. :)

Paul.

okk. if any of you noticed ive been hunting a wierd vibration/ shake which i think was dampener related. would it be bad to just pull an explorer motor check bearing and go ahead and put my top end on? or should i go ahead and "freshen" it up?
