Wow! That is major, hard to believe that this was triggered from a balancer. Worse thing i ever got from one going bad is a gouged up timing chain cover along with really violent engine vibrations when it failed. I just came from the junkyard about an hour ago and seen an endless number 5.0 rollers (exploders as well) so all isn't lost. At least you don't have major block work done. Just scope around.

okk. if any of you noticed ive been hunting a wierd vibration/ shake which i think was dampener related. would it be bad to just pull an explorer motor check bearing and go ahead and put my top end on? or should i go ahead and "freshen" it up?
freshen it up man its already out

Just make sure it's not trashed, bolt your crap on it, and go. Otherwise you'll end up with an endless project and a car that never runs. Eff that.

Paul.

+1 exactly. From the looks of things I wouldn't even bother messing with it. Just drop another block in, bolt it up and go.

Not at all hard to believe. When the balancer goes and has been going it can cause very wierd problems and i see the balancer as possibly being the problem especially if it was spun into the high rpm's.

not at all just check it out and bolt it on and go. Best thing i found was to check www.car-part.com then call and talk with them and see if you can find a local yard that hasn't pulled the motor yet. If they have then just check everything.

Id just put a new balancer on whatever engine you get, swap over what you need to and get it running and go

Buy the Explorer Motor. Take off the oil pan check it out replace the bearings since the pan will be off and run it. Get a FRPP Gasket kit and throw the Heads and intake on it. Pick your self up a TFS 1 cam and run it like a scalded dog.

That's hardcore, and on a basically stock 5.0L too, very strange. If that happened to me, I'd park my car for a year, buy a fully forged stroker and throw my existing stuff on that. Is your Stang your only car? If so just try and get it running, if not, I'd be VERY tempted to swap a 351w or something into it :p.

You'll need to do a valve job more then likely. Basically refresh the heads. You'd be wise to just pick up an explorer motor, leave the heads on it, throw a cam in it, new timing chain, change the pan, new oil pump/pickup, and then either adapt the GT40 intake over, or use your original. No point in re-doing e7 heads.

I found out last year what it looks like, not that thrilling, the DOHC 4v motor I took apart a few years back was A LOT more interesting inside. The internals on a 5.0L look like something from the 70s, probably because they basically are :p.

ooo IC. Be sure to drain the oil pan with a sifter, see what kind of metal chunks come out. I'd be curious to see that too.

will do. itll be at least monday night before i remove the damaged motor from the car. i was able to pull the lower bearing from the front main with the timing cover off. thats how messed up it is ha. have two good sized chunks of blocks to hold onto when little things go wrong to remind me how bad they could be.

I'm sure it was more interesting because it's A LOT more expensive to repair. You'll find similar 70s looking internals in an LSX but lets not go there.
