Hey everyone! I was wondering if there were any good books that break down the parts of a motor into detail(illustrated parts breakdown). I understand the basics of a motor but want to start practicing on breaking them down. I am a crew chief on the F-15's, so my mechanical skills are pretty good. I just have not been able to find anything good on the interwebs(I suck at googling and what I have found isn't what I am looking for). I don't mind spending money on the books, so it doesn't have to be free if it is good. Thanks guys!

For Mustang-specific, I'd look into getting a service manual for your car. Well worth the money even for the avid gear-head for little "here and there" things but it also covers complete engine/trans/etc maintenance and tear-down procedures.

Thanks Whiplash, I have the Haynes manual at the moment. Just didn't know if there were any other good books out there.

I have a book, SA155 "How to Rebuild 4.6/5.4-Liter Ford Engines:" I have learned a lot so far.

haynes manual isn't too bad but if you want more info on the specific pieces and where they go hit ebay and look for a factory manual set for your year. I got a 3-4 book set with an orange cover I call my mustang bible and it cost me $80 used for the set but its has been priceless and is much more complete then the haynes.

If you can find a factory manual they are worth their weight in gold. If you can't, Haynes and Chiltons are both good and have the important info, torque specs and clearances.

I mean THE service manual. Not A service manual.

Other books like the Haynes manual are okay, but they severely lack in information and detail sometimes. From time to time, I've also found them to be wrong on various things. If you just want a quick reference guide for a daily driver that you don't really care that much about, the Haynes manuals (or similar) usually do just fine... but if your mustang is your "baby" like mine is to me... the actual Ford Workshop Manual is an invaluable resource to have in your garage. I think I paid about $80 for mine, and it's been worth its weight in gold. The set is over 4 inches thick and covers every aspect of the vehicle in extreme detail.

I just ordered the CD rom version of the 2000. I keep a computer in the garage for quick reference. If I need to have something printed, obviously that's no big deal either.
