Im wondering if Im going to be able to hook with BF goodrich drag radials?

Im sure ill hook better than street tires but im wondering if im going to be able to launch my car?

In track trim my car is light and I have virtually no weight in the back of my car...no rear seat, nothing in the trunk etc.

Anyone have experiance with bf goodrich drag radials?

what size? more sidewall = more hook.

bfg's are especially sticky for a drag radial, and are especially terrible in rain and have especially terrible lifespan.
I hope you have some serious axles, or the money to do a rear.

I had a 255 mickey t's on my old coupe, and that b!tch flat hooked.

the motor was stock, but it spun street tires like a mofo, and i got them on the cheap

threw em on, and 4 grand clutch sidesteps on the street, they hooked enough to ALMOST stall the car.

MT's are better... I have tried all of the DR's out there and I like the MT's the best... They dont last very long if you drive the car on the street but they hook the best... Second on my list are the BFG's... They hook good... You need some suspension work for them to hook. I think you do though...

Well Im borrowing a set of bf goodrich lol...so thats not really an option.

But hopefully Ill get em to hook.

Im gonna put my quadshocks back on so I dont wheel hop all over the place.

I dont really have suspension work is the thing.

I have eibach lowering springs and some tokico shocks....wanted to get some LCA but still havent.

I guess im gonna have to find out for myself.

I think I should be fine since the stalled auto doesnt hit nearly as hard as say a 5k launch

Oh yea man,, the Stickey Mickeys are the way to go.. I'ved tired them all and only run Mickey's. Personally had Nitto's and Mickey and been in cars with BFG's. By far the Mickeys are the best for traction. With a 275/40/17 on a 99 Cobra rim I have cut a 1.64 sixty foot. That was in my 86 t-top car with a blown 331/AOD combo and 3.55's. Was leaving line at idle and flashing converter.( going from idle to WOT) Would bog a little and jump off line... A friend saw that and sold his nitto's and got a set of 255/50/16 for his chrome ponies. And was cut a high 1.60 sixty on a 10.80 run.

Can see bith cars here---> http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3346805/3 On my 86 in those track pics is when I had Nitto's on Chrome Ponies.. And can see the set-up with the Mickeys also..

You will be fine with them. Depending on track trim you should be alright, try running with a full tank of fuel, that will add some weight BUT put a lot of weight over the rear wheels and give you some better traction, I personally don't like to run It an empty tank. As far as the tires, Heat them up real good get some smoke outta them the first burn out and then just get them good and hot after that. You should be fine and don't forget to drop pressures.

Yep, thats what I was thinking.

Ive heard people seeing good results with like 15 psi?

does that sound about right?

start there and drop it dont forget 15psi on your first run wont be the same volume of air on the second or third run because of the head in the tires....

your lack of suspension mods will hold you back more then the tires you are running. Will you hook...yes..will you have a great 60' time.. probably not with stock control arms and non adjustable shocks/struts

Lol, they didnt hook worth a shit.

I hooked about the same on 245 street tires, no better 60 foots, no traction in first gear :crybaby2:

Best time was 12.195 @ 116.11 with a 1.93 60 foot, gay

My runs were pretty shitty since when I dont hook it kinda ruins the run with the auto.

It will bang second, bog, then back to first, waste all kinds of time.

Or it will spin, shift to second and stay in second but its also bogging down and when it shifts Im at like 2800-3k in second gear when I normally would be over 4k if I could actually hook and get first to rev out like I want it.

Cliff Notes:

No traction, fail

its your suspension.

All out drag cars run sub 10's with Nittos. DR's of any kind will hook but you need the rest of the supporting cast do do so. Its like putting on a bigger TB and intake but wondering why your HP did not increase that much when your still running stock heads ( from a push rod stand point with E7 heads)

I agree...

How long were your burnouts? I've had best success taking the advice of other guys at the dragstrip and on short-sidewall DR's doing John Force type burnouts. Made a hell of a difference. If you have a big sidewall setup and some suspension - say a 325/70/15 ET Street - you can run 12psi in the tires and do shorter spins.

Probably a good 15 seconds or so...

I wasnt doing too much because I somehow drained my battery and was running off a jump and when I do a john force, 3 gear burnout it will get traction and stall sometimes which I didnt want to happen.

I think the track was just too cold to be honest.

Justin, the heat of the track can definately make a difference. Try about 13 lbs. pressure (too low can be worse with a radial). Do a hard burnout, get them hot. Take off at about 3,000 rpm. You don't want them to break loose, sounds cool, but those 60 foot times will suffer. Get some better control arms, too.
