408w can be a very subtle beast but can also give you a very very fun ride. Paul used to have a 408w in his Vert i think.

A friend of mine used to DD a '68 coupe with a 408w. It was a crate engine he bought that was an advertised 601hp n/a. You could punch it at 60mph and the rear end would jump out.

I'm going to say that whatever you get should be boosted for a DD. With a turbo at least, as long as you aren't slamming the throttle all the time, you can stay mostly out of boost and still kick pretty good mpgs and have a tame ride until you want to rip it full throttle.

You and I both know it's not easy to stay out of boost!!!

Haha well of course not. The sound of the turbo spooling plus the PSHHHH of the BOV is sex. Of course the going fast part is fun too haha.

But staying out of a lot of power is EASIER with a turbo than a N/A setup. The power is always right there with N/A, but with turbo, you actually have to get them spinning before they're snapping you neck. Not much different I don't suppose, but it's just enough to make a boosted configuration a little bit more street friendly when rolling with high hp numbers.

man from what ive read/heard a Turbo + 5speed + street isnt that great, most ive talked to with that either wished they would have went blower or had an auto. they said it was to hard to control.

You can stay out of boost it's not hard, i do it everyday until my car warms up. What i meant by the comment was you will always want to get into it b/c it is so much fun. My speed 6 is Turbo & a 6 Speed. It's a great DD and a very very Fun and Pretty Dern quick also.

There are times when I wish the same things. Blower just because I've never had one and auto because dear lord traffic is murder (but who owns a stick and prefers it in traffic?) but I honestly don't have any problems with controlling my Skittle. A lot of the super fast street driven drag cars are turbo'd because of the fact that it's not too difficult to stay out of boost (and therefore power) if you're not stomping the skinny pedal. I've heard that autos are better for turbos simply because you're not losing nearly all of your boost in between shifts and whatnot but I'll stand by my opinion that for a fun street car, you can never beat a stick. I can't speak for whomever you've talked to but I'd love to have another turbo'd stick car except this time with RWD.

I've been avoiding piling a supercharger into the same group as the turbo because honestly, I've never driven a supercharged car and I'm not very familiar with how the boost coming on with the RPMs feels but I've been driving the SRT for about a year so I'm a bit more comfortable talking about a turbo. I can't say that a turbo'd Stang is better than a Supercharged for street driving, I'm just saying that I know it'd be better than a N/A build when you're getting up into those high hp levels like the OP is wanting.

Driving a stock N/A 4V is a different feel from the Fox 5.0's. Even with less HP the Fox's feel stronger because of the low end TQ hit but the 4V has almost 100 HP more it just makes it in a higher rpm.
The 4V breathes with ease and slap some boost on one and the low end TQ beefs up giving you the fun factor the 5.0 has and the pull away highway speed that makes ricers cry. The biggest benefit is how smooth and docile a 500rwhp 4V can be in a DD.

Also remember there is a difference from a positive displacement blower & a centrifugal like the Vortech...the posi gives instantaneous boost down low while the Vortech has to get a bit of RPM's like a turbo. I like the down low hit!

Fixed :)

Don't get me wrong, I know AWD handles better, but its just not as fun as RWD to me.

I enjoy driving my mom's 05 AWD Silverado SS, but its not the same as kicking the rear end out.
