its not about whats better, its about what sells. think about all the people in their 50/60+ that own a Buick. just because Buick isnt popular to the general census of people that do (would) own a mustang, doesnt mean that theyre not profiting off of their product line. aside from older Pontiacs (and when i say old, i dont mean OLD... but rather any model that isnt in production anymore, or in the last few years), like the Sunfire, etc, theres not too many Pontiacs on the road. i wouldnt hesitate one bit to say that the ratio of Buicks to Pontiacs on the road is probably somewhere around 6:1.

if i were GM i would axe Buick and keep Pontiac. what does buick make anyway? would any of you actually own a buick. and why keep GMC? although i'm more of a GM guy, I'm not really opposed to driving any particular brand. i don't like seeing ant company close there plants because that means jobs are lost. The airlines were in deep trouble a few years, a lot filed bankuptcy, some died and some got stronger and without govt. bailouts. why can't the automakers do the same thing.
Buick is the #1 selling car in China. Thats why they are keeping Buick

what about changing the name of the g8 to caprice instead of impala. i also agree the Monte Carlo needs to be a 2 door car again.the g5 takes the place of the sunbird/sunfire and those are the same car as the cobalt.(no loss there) g6 could be the impala. solstice/saturn sky ? , grand prix gtp: maybe that'll be the new Monte. Bonneville ? and all this is lost because gm wants to sell cars to china. wow. THE EXCITEMENT IS GONE FROM GM

The Buick brand is doing supremely well in China. Appears that the Chinese people view the Buick as a status symbol.

GM is the #1 auto seller in China, which is the fastest growing market in the world right now (for autos) if they lose that income, i dont want to think about how fast they will belly flop.

Why do they NEED GMC? A GMC truck is a rebadged Chevy truck with a 5k mark up on it. Several yrs ago I was thinking about buying a smaller pick up. I went and looked at nice 4x4 Colorado. I saw the GMC version a few days later at a different dealer. I stopped in because that one was black. Other than the color the trucks were identical. The GMC was almost 4k more. Theres nothing on a GMC they cant put on a Silverado. Its unneeded.

if they go under that means a HUGE shot to manufacturing here in the United States... without their strongest supporter prices will be forced to go up for those auto makers in the US who are still around. Higher prices for them means higher prices for us. the higher prices for us means fewer purchases...

If GM goes under, it wouldnt surprise me if ford isnt far behind.

This article even says it would be trouble for Ford. Ouch.

That's the other thread.

Ford is not in need of any bailout money at this point in time. They took the necessary measures awhile ago to avoid what we are now seeing w/ GM and Chrysler

Venom is right. Ford did what they had to to AVOID taking bail-out money, which I respect them for. They cut cross-over cars(Mark LT and Navigator I believe) and are selling off companies that arent really needed(Volvo).

Unfortunately some of Ford's cars are Volvo based i.e. Taurus (Ford 500) and Ford Flex.
