so my car just failed smog! first it failed inspection, cause i have bassani hi-flow xpipe and it only has 2 cats. he says it has to have 4 cats like from the factory. the hydrocarbons were slightly off, but he said if i had 2 other cats welded in before the hi flow ones, it should pass no problem. what do you think? and if so what cats should i get? i have 30 days to get em installed and retested before i get bent over for another $50.00

Did u not save the 4 cats?? I live in Northern Cali but i never do the smog cuz the area where i live doesn't require to do the smog every 1 or 2 years. Mines every 10 years. I am going to remove the cats but saving the 4 cats so when the 10 years come up to do the smog i just put the factory 4 cats back on and pass.

always keep a known good stock h-pipe in the shed for smog tests.

the only way to pass with a 2 cat pipe after it starts to get old is if you get the exhaust super hot, beat the crap out of the car and keep the rpm's up over 4k as much as possible for 10 minutes, then immediately have it tested.

yeah wish i wouldve kept it!!!
im gonna clean the maf, iac, change plugs tonight. my friends shop will visually pass it as long as it passes the sniffer.
better to spend 50 then to have some cats welded in or buy another h pipe. hopefully by the time it needs to be smogged again i will have different stang.

I have no smog pump, no cats, and it passes with flying colors! You definately need to find a "smog friend" out here in cali.

Move to illinois. 95 and older cars aren't required to do emissions at all =] My car has no smog equipment or cats.

Cali emission laws are so crazy. Put up a ad on corral.net .. there classified section is busy!

just 2 three-way cats mounted in the same location that the bassani cats were at. a 3-way cat covers all 3 types of emissions that the car produces so your good. contact magnaflow im sure they can help you out. =)

so i turned the timing way down did a full tune up, and went in for a re-test. barey made a diff.
so now i have to pay the 40 to have it tesed again.

found a stock h pipe with 50,000 miles on it ofr 65. picking it up on monday. hopefully with the timing brought down to 10* and the tune up, and two more cats it will pass. it better or imma sell this bitch!

If you still afraid it won't pass the sniffer.
Pull the spout connector. Then have it smogged. The car will idle and drive fine below 2500 rpm's.
I have to do this in Ga to gt mine to pass.
Pulling the spout prevents the computer from advancing the timing when accelerating.
