The tips are ok not really dull but have a few really tough spots on them and i cant ever seem to get them to really shine and pop. Also if anyone knows, are they chrome or just polished? Can I use a chrome polish on them? Or what can I use around the house to give them a nice clean?

I usually just use glass cleaner to clean the water stains/residue and shit off. But I read somewhere that you can use a wire brush to get the black spots off which I think are carbon deposits not sure. But the glass cleaner got mine real shinny almost brand new looking! and my catback/tips are 5 years old.

They are Polished, i think..

Use Windex (or any glass cleaner) and some steel wool pads #0000 is the finest so it wont scratch up the tips.after cleaning spray some more windex and wipe right off with a terry cloth. and done.

I have SLP tips as well, go to Auto zone, grab some Mother's Billet metal polish.

this stuff WORKS, i will never buy another kind of polish, it brought my tips back to better than new shine. for the lip, or inside, i used SoS (dishwashing) pads, then the billet polish. the best thing about the billet, it can be used on any polishable metal. I took of the over axle pipes that you can see from the side, cleaned them in the sink with a sos pad, then polished them with the billet, it looks like a fully chrome cat-back, even the clamps came out great.

I use it as directed, get some on a terry cloth, buff it in for like 10-15 seconds, and use a clean terry to wipe it off. it is the best stuff ever.

first clean with window cleaner and #0000 steel wool.

then polish with a metal polish and then apply your favorite wax

you can use straight ammonia, which is why the glass cleaners work so well.
there is a product called NeverDull in a metal can at the parts store, its a wool w/ polish in it, works great and lasts nearly forever, just use gloves when you use it because it likes to stain your hands, great for a polish w/o swirls.
my favorite is some stuff called Green Magic, you get it at the car shows and swap meets, you know the guy w/ the microphone hollering about polishing coke cans and stuff. i use it w/ a buffing wheel on valve covers and other parts that are normally hard get to shine.

my new valve covers came polished, but had a really bad finish to them...just very oxidized. My neighbor does some polishing on the side (rims mostly). So he has all types of equipment and products. Anyways, he said the best thing to use is this stuff called Wenol. You may or may not be able to find it at an autoparts store. I ordered mine off of Amazon, and am amazed at how well it works. My oxidized "polished" valve covers now look just like show chrome. If youy can get your hands on some Wenol, you won't be disappointed.
