I have a 96 mustang gt. Nothing done other then a exhaust. I was searching on ebay and found a pair of complete 2000 mustang gt heads ( with cams, valves, the whole deal.) I managed to get the intake manifold from the seller as well for free. So i have the intake manifold, and the heads, Nothing else.

From here on out im confused on how to do the pi swap as far as other parts i need. i know how to do the swap if i have all the parts, i tried reading guides and it states all the parts list in the guide but im just horrible when it comes to piecing that information together with what i already have.

My question is, other then the pi heads, cams, intake manifold. What else do i need? as i said before i have read about 3-4 guides but all the guides i read are all on if you have baught the whole kit online and i didnt, i just baught the heads and intake manifold.

Could anyone tell me what else ill need to do this swap?? Will i be able to use the same valve covers from my old heads to use on the new heads? Also will i be able to order a gasket set for a 2000 mustang gt and use that gasket set? I need a parts list pretty much and if anyone could link a very easy to understand parts list ill appreciate it SO much!

So pretty much what im asking, can someone tell me exactly what to order, except for the heads, cams, intake manifold..

Im pretty horrible when it comes to this stuff. Thanks alot =c)

calm down little feller, it's alright. (not being sarcastic btw.) 1st- welcome to the forum. this is an awesome site with a wealth of knowledge. alot of people here like to help, so feel free to ask questions. anyway, i can answer part of your question then someone else will have to chime in. as far as a parts list goes, at the top of the 4.6 section is a sticky that says the pi headswap & you. it has what you're looking for. welcome again...

Thanks for the responce buddy =c) and ya im glad i found a home for forums, i been around many forums and none of them seemed as welcoming and as knowledgable as this place..

I would also recommend OEM Ford valve cover gaskets, thermostat gasket and timing cover gaskets. You can do the oil pan if you like if you have the engine out of the car. There is also a coolant tube that goes across under the intake as well. You might need to change that too but don't hold me to that.

I prolly wont have the engine out for this, just hood off and working through my engine bay.

Im trying to peice this all together but its becoming really pricey. I wish there was a website that sold EVERYTHING in one. i got ahold of parkway and tried buying there kit and it is:

http://www.parkwayperformance.com/2vheadswap.asp

I talked to rick starks i wanna say his name was and this guy is the guy to talk to fordracing says. Ima try and buy that whole kit just take out the intake manifold and heads.

also is it true that ill need a new valve cover for the 2000 gt swap?

i suggest replacing your motor mounts durring this process, lifting the motor with a block of wood by the oil pan.. . .it will really help (trust me)

the PI head swap sounds WAAAY easy, but it adds up FAST... thats why i gave up... i had half the parts and i went broke... .. . .. i got major goals now, and nothing is going to change my mind or suck my wallet.

as for the valve cover, you will have to count the number of bolts... 11 or 13? 11 = romeo (i think) 13 = windosr.

i honestly forget. lol. lol. (ive been drinky drinky tonight)

but you MAY need valve covers. anything off a 4.6 1996-2004 will fit as long as its the right bolt pattern (keep in mind the 2 on the timing cover) so they are VERY easy to find... crown vic, liconls, all sorts of crap came with the 4.6...

I have BBK chrome valve covers.... dont get those. lol.

In my research, I found that the 1999 thru the middle or so of 2001, the motors were Winsdor. The 1996-1998 and some where in the middle of 2001-2004 are Romeo motors. Big differences are like he stated, the valve covers on the Winsdor=13 bolts with the Romeo=11 bolts. Also, the timing chain cover on the Winsdor motors have slightly bigger bolts than the Romeo. The Romeo cover will work, just use the bigger bolts for the heads. I think the 99-04 motors have the oil fill on the pass side. The cam gears are different, Romeo has bolt on gears and Winsdor are press on. I almost bought a 99 motor until I found out about the differences and I decided it would be too much trouble so I got a 97 motor. I'll wait and do the PI intake and cam swap later on.
