Ok guys, so I got a bit of a problem. I went to replace a rear axle seal this weekend, thought "hey, this shouldn't be too hard". Well, I didn't do my research and I thought to get my C-Clip out it would help to remove my spider gears. This was all fine too until I tried putting them back in. What happened was that when I was trying to turn the spider gears back into the differential, the round little slide bushing popped off the spider gear when it made contact with the differential case and flew back behind the pinion gear into one of the oil passages. At this point I don't really know what to do. I can't reach back far enough with my hand or a magnet to pull it out. I guess the real question here is do I need to just take it a shop and have them remove everything out of the rear end to reach it or is it possible to pull out the differential without messing up backlash etc? I'd rather not take it to a shop, but if I do I guess it's a good time to put in some 3:55's.. Sorry for the lengthy description. Thanks for any input.

I drive 50 miles a day and i'm not sure I want to take any more of a gas hit than 3:55's will already give me. Oh, and the wheels aren't as nice as they look lol, they've got a good bit of curb rash.

Do you think pulling the diff out will allow you to get to it? if so, just pull the caps, and slowly pull it out. you might have to pry on it a little. there will be a few shims on each side of the carrier but just keep them separate from side to side and you'll be fine. you'll need a torque wrench to put the caps back on.

I *think* it might help, I really need a "cut through" blueprint of the rear end to figure out what i'm dealing with. But, it won't mess anything up as long as I put it all back how it came out?

I've seriously thought about getting a Geo Metro or something and saving for a Bullitt, but, I think i'll keep this for now. I gotta get it running before I sell it anyhow. I'd drop some money into it if I knew I wanted to keep it, but I'd really like a coupe :/

Yeahh.. I probably should. BUT, since I have to get it on the road now, can I be sure that if I pull the diff. that it won't mess up any of the tolerances?

I'll definitely keep that in mind though i'm not sure how great of a condition it's in. The previous owner just used screws on the bottom to attach it and i'm not sure if it's sagging because of the bumper or the header panel.

i would, think about it.

you DONT WANT a vert.
you need a DD with decent MPG
and school first bro.

youd find something better, cheaper and that you actually like later on.
maybe even a new 5.0 (if you like them) as youd have a solid income after you are done with school.
