Has anyone taken the harmonic balancer(Damper) off of a 2v 4.6 yet?

I want to know for sure if there is a key way cut in the crank. Professinal Products Techs are telling me that there isn't.

This doen't make any sense to me.

Who cuts ketways into cranks without removing the crank from the engine?

I have a 98GT 2v NPI

I have no clue what you are talking about. I really don't think it would matter if it had a key way or not b/c you can't adjust timing on these cars so what use is it?

Professional products are garbage.

Their techs are retarded as well, the 4.6 has a keyway in the crank.

I run a blower and the keyway helps to keep the balancer from spinning on the crankshaft snout.

Thanks you. I hadn't pulled my broken damper off yet to see, I was going to order one and do the job all in one sitting. Mine came appart 1/2 mile from the house, and I didn't here it, car was running great. I wouldn't have know had it not sepperated and flew forward and then knocking my oil retun from the blower loose, dumping oil on the ground. and then hanging itself on the oil return rigid line like a horse shoe. I can't believe the belt stayed on.

wow, that sucks. But good thing it saved itself for you lol

Yeah, if it hadn't knocked the oil line loose, It would have slipped by me for a while, especially with the belt still on. Trick trick, never in a million years can this happen again.

I'm going to assume from your screenname you are running juice :hammer: This is the perfect time for you to upgrade to a MotoBlue or March SFI underdrive pulley.

Nope, If you would've read all the post, you'd see I'm running a blower. It is true I am a fan of the juice. But I also have a fox with a 76mm turbo. I kinda dabble in all power adders.

I do not want to under drive my blower.

yea i hear ya. So do they make a better looking and better quality dampner that isn't underdrived? B/c those stock ones look like ass... It would be nice to have something clean looking and no rusted sitting on the show room floor ya know.

There are a couple SFI dampers out there. Steeda used to have one.

that pro products looks pretty good to me.

Professional products always look good, until they don't fit, don't work, fall apart, etc. They are just Chinese knock offs of good part's. That's how they do everything so cheap, they steal our R&D and then reproduce it poorly with crapier materials.

ATI is a very nice pice, but if you can't swing that, then just go OEM.

I was going to try the PP until the tech told me that my crank wasn't keyed, and in order for the damper to work for me i had to have a keyway cut in my crank, and then use the key, which then voids the warranty of the damper. I was like WTF?

I'm just going to leave my car broke, until i can get the ATI, a local friend has a OEM unit he's going to give me, no doubt it will separate like this one.
