Anyhow, you need to replace the axle shaft.

Time for either hardened 28 splines from Moser or your can swap 31 spline with a termi diff

Although I really can't afford to upgrade, I guess its the only way to go..

If people tell you you need 31 spline axles, dont listen, you can get them but these 28's you will not break. They are about 30% stronger over stock then then oe axles and you will not need to change your carrier. After you buy these go to ford and get new axle bearings (side bearings, get new axle seals and some new c clips, and some new juice for the rear end and youll be good to go. Also with the new axle on just slide your rotor on hold it in place with a lug nut and let the axle spin and see if the rotor got damaged as well.

However, your other option(s) should the $$ funds not allow for them at the moment or you could care less about putting a drag slick or drag radial on the car or a combination of both, then you can just buy a single axle from any Driveline shop (pick up your favorite Mustang magazine and give one of the advertisers a call), for under $100 each.

OR Find someone who already has upgraded their axles and is selling their stock ones. Might get lucky and score the pair for $50?

OR if you can't find a set of used axles from a 94-98 8.8, the axles from the V6 7.5 94-98 cars are the same thing = direct fit. (The 94-98 7.5 and 8.8 axle shaft length is 29 15/16 inches).

As Duff mentioned, good time to get new axle bearings and seals.

I smacked a curb in my '95 a few years ago. Did similar dmg.

Along with the wheel, it also snapped my brake rotor, and bent the flange on the axle shaft. They're EXTREMELY simple to replace. New axles are around $75 new from your local Advanced Auto store.

Same thing happened to me... except my axle completely snapped clean off and my car was sitting on top of my wheel. Luckily axles are not that expensive if you just get a stock replacement.
