I got tired of looking at the rusty intake pipe so some sand paper, 3 coats of grey metallic and 2 coats of gloss later I ended up with this

Things I learned owning a mustang for a week:

-old guys think you're awesome. Seriously lol.
-gas stations love you
-long gearing is both a blessing and a curse
-hondas don't rev at you (compared to driving a import tuner)
-hondas don't tailgate either
-non car people mistake it for a newer mustang...???
-rear end noises. Holy frick. It's like driving a old pickup
-third gear is hard to catch. Maybe that one is just me but it's either there or it isn't. No play in the shifter either, just sometimes doesn't go straight forward.
-the handling isn't as bad as everyone says, its shockingly good for a solid rear (mine is modded tho). Steering has much less slop and deadzone than I expected. There's little feedback but that's ok since I don't road race.
-the car still feels pretty solidly built despite what mustang haters would have you believe. 17 years old but is held together with very few rattles and loose parts.
-cable clutches are kind of mushy
-other car guys either like you or absolutely hate you with very little in between. Surprised how much ppl don't like these cars
-the exhaust sound never gets annoying. It's a true symphony and is imo one of the top 3 best sounding v8 engines ever.
-supercharger whine gets annoying after a while

Rear end noises?? Explain...........

What shifter does it have? Plus if tranny has been beat on but never gone thru then the syncros are probably showing wear. Until the t56 many of our manuals over the years are notorious for 3 gear issues.

Handling isn't nearly as bad and can be greatly improved upon and obviously your on two great sites to help you with that. Steering can also be greatly improved.

I'm the opposite, I hate hydraulic clutches and think they're mushy but yet when I order my t56 magnum I'm considering ordering the hydraulic upgrade

People that hate em do it cause either they're sick of seeing em everywhere or they're jealy!!!!

Mustangs have always had the best and most distinguished sound.

Your sick of the whine already??? Turn the radio up!!!!! :)

The rear end clunks just driving around. Also 1st-2nd gear shifts make the rear sound like I ran over a pothole. If I shift quick it doesn't do that. It has the stock shifter, the sybchros are still good I can shift quick even at high rpm with no grind or popouts. Sometimes 3rd is hard to "find". That's the best way I can explain it, the actual H pattern is sloppy but the shifter itself isn't sloppy at all, it's pretty solid.

And yeah the whine is too much when you're trying to be somewhat stealthy. It literally blocks out the exhaust sound. It's not like a turbo though so it's nice that it's quiet just driving. But when I get on it even a little bit it screams so damn loud. I like the sound just wish it wasn't turned up to 11.

What has been modified in the rear end? Sounds like you need to check out your control arm bushings real well. Get yourself a good shifter, MGW or steeda tri-ax are the go to. I had a tri-ax shifter and absolutely loved it but a lot of people say the MGW is better. The difference is drastic and it should help with your 3rd gear issue.

I haven't inspected back there thoroughly yet. I do wanna do all new control arms and bushings.

So I put a new serpentine belt on. I got a .5" shorter belt which I'm hoping will combat some of that belt whip I've been getting. It's very minimal but the chunk of belt by the lower pulley has been hitting the radiator hose.

On and going smooth! I love how simple blowers are. Sure they get hot and heavy but some of us like it that way ;)

also check out this car at the pump. That's what a BMW gets ya haha

If your on a stock shifter then that's definitely the problem with finding third.

Check your rear end out real good and if you need bushings let me know. I've got a ton of brand new prothane bushings that I won't need cause I got the IRS. I also got a good set of lower control arms.

Today I'm hearing a bird chirping sound when I give it even a little gas it gets louder. At idle it's pretty faint. Happened right after a wot pull, in pulling the plug boots and checking if it's a loose plug. I tried starting it and it took a while to fire up and smelled like fuel.

Pulled 4 plugs and they were all still good. Have 4 more to go. I did fire the car up again and this time it started as normal and the sound was gone. I was suspecting either a blown plug or an exhaust leak but now I'm stumped since it went away.

I suppose its possibly one of the idler pulleys chirping but I figure that would be rpm related and not load related.

Edit:

nevermibd the sound is back. It's more of a ticking sound and it happens on acceleration.

checked 7 plugs and they were good except one was a tiny bit looser than the rest so I tightened it up some. One more to pull but it's hard to get to...

the idle is a bit shakier than before, and there's a CEL on. For some reason my obd scanner won't communicate with the ford ecu so I can't read the code.

edit: got the reader to go through by flicking the ignition switch on and off multiple times. Code is p0354 ignition coil D primary / secondary circuit

so funny enough that coil is cylinder #4, the one that I haven't been able to remove. I'll try that one again tomorrow as I don't really feel like messing with it anymore today.

In the meantime does anybody know what this fuse is for? It goes right into the fender well

Yeah that's not factory. Gonna have to chase it. It's on the wrong side to be stereo eqpt or anything.

Well the car does have some receivers in the cabin for an alarm system it used to have. If it's not factory then I'm not too worried for now, I'm sure I'll dig up more stuff over time.

I would definitely chase it down asap as it may be to something like Thomas said. It's possible it could go to nothin but I woudnt want to take that chance. And seeing how torched it is I'd want to know so I can fix what's melting it.

Just saying.........

Yeah I know, I have a list of things I need to look at though and right now that one isn't very high. If something factory melted like that then I would be very worried but aftermarket stuff doesn't bother me since I've had plenty of cars with strange wiring like this that ultimately leads no where. I already saw the inside of the fender when I pulled the intake off and there's no spark controller in there.

Still haven't gotten the rear left coil pack off, doesn't help that the bolt head is an odd size and is stripped. In sure a 6 point wrench would do the trick but those are impossible to find.

Kinda wish they didn't put the fuel rail on top of the coils like that.
