seriously need to get with the times, and never mention that abomination ever again... the Tweecer is a waste of retail advertising.

I just did some research and I won't be talking about the twEECer anymore lol. The QH sounds great. Just dunno if I'd get a wide band kit and I'm clearly new to self tuning.

if its something you have never touched before, it would be a good idea to let someone else do the work for you.

meaning, go see a professional

I'm sure I could get a fair hold on it but I will most definitely go to a professional

I was in the same boat thinking about either getting the moates or a tune and decided I'm gonna get it tuned and chipped by a pro. The cost of the moates goes up after you have to get the wideband and plus theres the time its gonna take for you to actually get the car's tune to where you want it. For a combo that doesn't involve a blower/turbo its better to go get it tuned in one shot and be done with it so you can actually drive the car. IMO

Good points. I can see it both ways tho. I have a few new questions now tho. My brother is all gun ho about some crap called a gforce chip. I think it's a scam honestly but does anyone have experience with them? Also if he gets this gforce chip I can probably snag his jet chip for free. Can the moates software tune that chip?

Adder is right. The timing tables in the T4M0 suck. The only inexpensive way to get rid of the ping is to reduce initial timing A LOT, which will suck power, and get some different plugs. Otherwise, you're in for a ~$500 tune or similar alternative.

How much a difference do 24 plugs make? Any negative effects? I don't have the 500 to spare so no spirited driving for me.

Like I said, the only way I could eliminate most of the detonation in two of my cars was to use a one step colder plug and back initial timing down to 4-6 degrees. However, I can't reasonably estimate how much of the improvement is attributable to a colder plug vs reducing initial (and in turn, overall) timing.

Yeah it'd be hard to say what the plugs do. I'll experiment with the 24's and see what I get as it's time for plugs.

If I was back home, I'd be more than wiling to send chips out with better timing tables in them. However, its difficult for me to do such things out here. I dont have my netbook, or my burning equipment...

I'll be home in 3ish months though!

does the motor still have the egr hooked up? is the coolant temp sensor reading correctly based on the scanner?

sh1ts and giggles set the base timing to 30 or whatever you think your total timing advance is then leave the spout OUT. go see if it is still pinging.

Good point about the EGR. That totally slipped my mind. Modo is smart. :tongue3:

EGR cools the combustion chamber and helps reduce detonation.

Might just try swapping a junkyard ecm out with yours. If that car didn't have the trouble, then yours won't either. You can always just take it to the ford house and pay their $75 diagnostic fee. If they get it wrong (which I doubt they will) then they won't be able to charge you for that particular repair cause they have to warranty all their work. And they have to call you and tell you what it is before they fix it. When I have a problem like this, that is what I do. I drop it off at the ford house, and wait for them to tell me what it is. Then I go pick up the car and make the repair myself. $75 is worth it to me to cut out all the hair pulling and time wasting and overspending on parts that you don't need.

Except in this case, where we have told him exactly what his problem is.

egr is hooked up and the temp on the scanner was good. I put in some 24's today. before that i checked timing on the light. bout 10.5 base and then 20-25 with the spout in at idle then 30 at 2500. seems about right. when i pulled the plugs they were pretty beat and one was cracked the whole length of the porcelain. took her out and drove her as hard as i could. no pinging to the top of 3rd. Didnt have room for 4th. i get a ton of pipe burn off is this normal? i can notice it between banging gears and normal driving.
