DIY spark plug wires

Who has done this before to be able to tell what tools are needed and where to get them and the parts? After getting everything back together on my dual battery install I started the car and noticed two plug wires were wiggling a little too much and were just barely making contact. I would like to make my own as I hate extra wire and would like to keep it as neat as possible. I would like some nice 9mm wires and would be willing to spend the $$$ for the wire/boots and a good crimper for it.

Can't be any harder then the wiring I have already done. My only real concern is getting a good crimper and some good wire if anyone has any recomendations.

took a little while but it opened. Do you recomend 90 or 45 degree boots for the 302? Also is it ok to use an 8mm boot on an 8.5 mm wire or is that extra half a mm gonna put it over the top?

so here is what I found on summit

They didn't have the crimper you recomended, it said to use the 35051: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-35051/

Not sure if $70 is a good price or not, I have asked on my local mustang clubs site to see if anyone has one I can borrow.

Now for parts, does this look right?

None taken, except that those plug wires are just normal, cheap FRPP wires. My local hot rod shop gave me the new ends for free, and I re-used the existing boots of course, so that custom-made set of wires cost me the same as any set of FRPP plug wires that all of you have. Well, I guess there was a $2 can of brake cleaner and a rag used to wipe off the lettering too.

lol not only do you do cool ass work, you get nice hook ups too... i think with a hook up on the ends and maybe a tool to borrow then it would be a great upgrade for the motor, but for someone who has none of that, it will be an expensive one... but you cant beat the look of how clean it looks

this kit looks like it would be perfect for what paul did... just like you said, works already half way done

Plus, I've actually made up sets of wires and charged people for it, and have long since paid myself back for the tool.


It's sort of like my powdercoating. I have thousands of dollars in an air compressor, filters, regulators, electrical, blast cabinet, oven, equipment... etc. However, I did all my own powdercoating on my whole motor myself, and it cost me next to nothing in materials. I have a much easier time spending money on tools than I do on shitty car parts.
