Will my car still idle and run if I take off all the smog and egr stuff?
I have just gotten the gt40 heads and intake.
I want to get rid of all the egr and smog stuff.
I assume I will keep the o2 sensors.
Any tips?
I really just want less junk and more room plus it would look better.
Comments?
Thanks,
Doug

I just went through the same thing on my 94. I removed the smog pump and all of it's components, bought a set of thermactor plugs (that's what you should search on eBay) to plug the holes in the back of my stock heads; I got 4 plugs for less than $10 shipped! Instead of using a delete pulley I just ran a shorter belt which is perfectly fine just can be a hassle trying to get the right length belt. Even after looking up what length belt to use in a couple of different forums I still wound up trying 3 belts before I got the right size. As far as the EGR, I initially just bought a block off plate and planned to completely discard it, but the more I read everyone says that can cause problems unless you get the program removed from your computer. I'm using a set of headers of my friends 89 Fox and they don't have the bung for the EGR tube, so I wound up putting my EGR valve back on and plugging it in, went to my local hardware store and found a 5/8" tubing flare, it's threaded on the inside on one end and just a flared end on the other. But I used that along with 3 pennies stacked inside it (which seems to be a pretty common solution lol) and tightened it up onto the valve til it seemed to be tight as it would go. And so far I've had no problems with it, the valve sealed off good, and I haven't had any check engine lights come on, yet. And yes I still used my O2 sensors. Like I said so far everything seems to be working fine, but I still haven't gotten my car out of my shop and drove around any to see if any unknown issues come up.

It will run fine. Don't take the smog pump off unless your planning on putting an offroad midpipe (no cats). The smog pump- pumps air to the cats. I run no smog pump, bought a billet delete pulley (looks good), egr's capped off, no cats. Not one problem, car runs like a top. Keep the O2 sensors on btw

A sticky would be good.
I have been searching for days!
And basically "Paul" has good arguments against it.
But I am looking for information for doing it.
And there is so much misinformation out there.
But I plan on getting a tune for the change.
My mustang is one of 4 cars I own right now and I don't have to drive it during the wait for the tune.
No inspection in my area and a well running fuel injected engine without smog and egr is what I want.
My car is a toy.
Not a commuter.
Or a tree saving device. just kidding
Thanks,
Doug
