if you want a stroked 351 then why are you asking about modding parts for your 302? Its not as easy just dropping in a 351 block just an FYI. Are you doing the labor yourself? If not then your paying to have heads put on, then taken off and put on another engine.
Yeah im do most of the labor myself and i dont know how long its gone be before i have everything to do the 351w swap and dont most of the 5.0 parts can be swap over the the 351w???

I still have the thread about this i start a few months ago ima have go look through it again

Thats not the best way to way to approch this not knowing when/if you will even have all the parts for the 351 and when. Would really suck to be stuck w/ a set of 205 AFR's and nothing but a 302 to put them on b/c thats overkill by a lot

You got a good point there hmmmm..... Whats the difference between 185cc and 205cc beside airflow :dontknow: Cause i figure a 5.0 with 205cc heads would provide plenty of airflow for a nice intake and cam to put out some pretty nice numbers :dontknow:

The difference is the air flow, bigger head flows more air. Bigger an engine is the more air flow it can use, there is a limit to just how much air flow a 302 can make use of. From what Ive read the 205 head far exceeds the amount of air flow that a 302 can push through it. If it was just as simple as putting bigger heads on a smaller engine then everyone would just strap on AFR 225's or Trickflow HI Ports on 302's but that's not how it works.

You have to make the decision on if you want to build your 302 or build a 351, not by planing on building a 351 "at some point" and putting all the 351 parts on a 302. Im not telling how how to build your car Im just trying to save you money b/c things change all the time. Me for example I planed on building a 408 Stroker that would put down 420 RWHP + but the cost factor was just to much so I have switched gears and decided to go a different route. I would be highly screwed if I started buying parts for that project then decided that I wanted to go a different route.

You could put together a real good H/C/I Package that would give you a good amount of power and would drive great. You have to go over what your plans are with the car, handling, looks, or Power and then decided your budget and what you want to spend. There is nothing worse then buying parts twice b/c it is not what you wanted or b/c you changed your mind on something. Im speaking from experience that's why I dont buy parts on a whim b/c later on down the line you may end up thinking...oh damn that's not really what I wanted b/c I would have been better off going with "this". I have a solid strong running N/A engine now. Doing a whole different 351 based block stroked to a 408 was going to be a 10K Plus project for me, not what I was really wanting to do and I didn't figure that all out until I sat down and really started adding up the price of parts. Now that I've changed my mind on what I want to do I think Im going to be much more happy with my current decision that will definitely take the power to the next level

hmm so if i wanted a good handling car with decent power, a 302 would be best becuase the 351 is heavier correct?

I was at 10K with just the engine, planned on keeping my current tranny. Id go the mild 302 w/ a turbo, you can get more power out of that then a build up N/A 427

im not really sure what i think about it being 100 pounds heavier. At the same time I keep thinkin that its really not that much more, but then again its all going to one spot, the front.
