Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

I have some gauge faces that are designed this way. They are not UPR's. The openings for the needles are just ever so slightly smaller than the disc at the base of our needles. The faces are 3 pieces. 1 for fuel/temp. 1 for speedo/tach, etc. You just thread the 2 needles into the openings on each face section and carefully work the face down and around each needle base. I used a small flat tipped screwdriver. Repeat for the other 2 sets. It's a snug fit but not too difficult.

Eli, why do you need to change needles on the cobra cluster?

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

I never even thought about threading them around them! I liked the black look of the ones I painted. I stuck then on there instead of the yellow ones. I don't think you can see the black needles @ night though. I will stick the stock ones back on it. I just wondered how this was done. Thanks for explaining it.

I never drive @ night, so I can maybe get away with it.

I like the green look to them. I may even stick the Rev Glow back on these?

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

I have my old gauges in my back seat area. I saw how it can be done w/o removing the needles. I couldn't do that, though. I would almost have it, then I'd pop 1 needle off. Bobby said he could prob do it. I know I am not good with stuff requiring both hands now. This proved that comment! I am still looking for some overlays that turns the entire area green. I see UPR has a white face one. It doesn't say how it lights up @ night. I feel like I have typed this before. Sorry if I have!

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

Its not that hard, the UPR ones slide over fairly easy. I did have to trim the overlay slightly to let the needle spin more free but it was no big deal.

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

Are you asking if I did it myself? If so, no I didn't even attempt that. It might sound all easy, I would make it just worse! I'm still wanting to find & buy something that makes the entire gauges in green. I have the reverse glow like I said. Waiting to here back from when I asked UPR about there's. My mechanic never saw that it could be done without taking off the needles. I just thought & saw it when I posted this!! I've had these for about since '03? Don't think I've ever made y'all truly understand what I mean when I saw I'm 'slow'. There's proof! Once I explained myself, showed him on my old cluster, he said it could be done. Mine are fine right now. I can't drive @ night until my new HL's arrive, anyhow. Thanks!!

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

Thats what i have with the matching HVAC cover. They match my Autometer Lunar gauges perfect!

I had an issue with a short in one side of my EL Glow cluster and they sent me a entire new set for free with no questions asked. This was over a year after i first bought them too. Good service.

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

That is what I was looking for. A near perfect match. All I knew of was the NV's. Are the Lunars an older set up? I have looked on AM's site, summit, & on jegs. All I see is like the entire cluster set up of Lunars. Didn't think of like eBay, go there next.

Looked & looked, I can't find any but that cluster set. On eBay, there were like 9 of them. Not what I needed, I think though.

Lunars are not available anymore, i cruise ebay to try and find the extra's i need. I have a Lunar Wideband and Boost but i want a trans and coolant temp gauges eventually.

The NV is a decent match.

Why not just remove them? It isn't that hard to do and it is just as easy to put them back on.

Re: Easy installation without removal of needles!

Only thing is that how I messed up my stock cluster. I think I removed the needles 1 too many times. It's an easy thing, don't think it was meant for it. Did I say I ordered those El Glow overlays today, before I checked my e-mail. The UPR rep told me they are out of stock. Too late since I already bought it! I wanted to order that A/C plate. I'm not sure how it is during the day though. I'm thinking it is just white. I just don't want it to be silver.

Javi posted a pic. Like his was in the brushed finish, maybe? Where do I find like options of those parts? All I can find is the rings on American Muscle.
Let me find that pic real quick.

Javi has the same mask & bezel assembly I have. This is the silver 35th Anniversary set for a '99 car. There is a small mod that has to be done to the trip odometer reset "seat" on the rear of the bezel though. Installing it w/o doing the mod results in a trip odometer that will not function.

I have the white/green indiglo gauges and it looks so cool at night with the silver mask.

Here is my current set up with the UPR EL GLOW and UPR aluminum trim ring. I'm changing that out with the one from 69clark. Also swapped the steeda hvac controls to the mgw ones.

That's exactly what I want to get for mine. Any way you can post the link to your A/C plate? I think it's just the El Glow one.

I'm pretty sure that's the one. As usual, doubting myself!!

As far as the rings go, I like the Amer Muscle ones the best. I think.

I wish I could get like the Mach One look to mine. I looked on 50resto & American Muscle. That's only places I've looked. Still have too much for sure wants.
