94 5.0 swap into a non-ford. The engine has been sitting for over 6 months. Have been trying to get it started for several days with no luck. One thing I noticed was the lack of fuel pressure on the rail. I ran the FP from a seperate battery for 30 seconds and built pressure to 35psi. Within 10 seconds the pressure was back down to 0. I pinched the return and pressure got up 40ish and pretty much stayed steady. Released the pinch and pressure dropped again. I took the regulator off and applied 26" hg vac with a hand pump and it held solid.

So what goes wrong inside the regulator? All it has is a diaphram right?

you are correct sir... there is a vacuum activated diaphram and over time they will crack up and break.... also leads to a fuel leak through the vacuum port

I soaked it several times with brake cleaner. It's back on and holding 40psi. The engine still ain't starting. But saved $53.

id start by checking if you are getting spark, then if so check to see if your injectors are pulsating.... you could have a bad pick up coil....
