Ok so most of you remember me from a few years back, when I had those lovely chrome 10 spoke wheels, like this:

Since then it's slowly progressed, going from this:

To this is pretty much where it stands looks wise:

Come a long way but not totally done. I started this thread because I got my hands on a 4.2 long block for $50.
It has been bored 30 over, honed and all that good stuff.
Got new pistons, a 218/226 .500 lift cam, 24 pound injectors, p&p heads 3 angle valve job comp 918 springs.
Just trying to make it a solid good running build with a bit more power.
I still need to get the intakes, but this is what I have so far, more pics to come.

Day One:

This thing was disgusting:

After being all cleaned up bored and painted

Painting some stuff:

I'll try to take pics once I get the heads reassembled and all. I know this is not as impressive as some other stuff but I am having fun with it.

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2

It was my friends dads, the head gasket blew, he put a Mustang motor in his F-150 ;)
I'm doing vise versa haha

From what my gf tells me my best friend spent too much money on me (I don't like getting presents, and he likes to go overboard) so I should have some pretty cool pictures after christmas, shortly thereafter I'll be assembling everything and checking pushrod length.

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2

I got new bumpers for Christmas, one with no lettering in the back but the cuts for the exhaust, so soon the whole thing will be painted. I plan on getting the a and c pillar and roof all painted black, along with a black hood scoop and keeping the black wing.

Still got a few things before assembly begins but its close :)

I'm sure you've been told this before, but your car would look soo much better lowered(and yes I remember those wheels haha). I am excited to see this build though, it's fun seeing what people can do with limited budgets and I might even learn a bit about 6cyls. Good luck man!

It is not always about what you install, but that you enjoy doing it. Have at it, I want to see it run.

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2

Planning on doing suspension after the swap, annd I wouldn't so much call it a limited budget haha.

I'm not buying junk stuff, I just take a long time to get parts because they cost more than my pay checks :)

And thanks matt, got the piston rings on today and the crank in.
hoping I got everything right.

Any suggestions, one bolt on the rear main seemed to bind up the crank entirely so I had to loosen it. To do what the haynes book said I was putting the bolts at about 130 foot pounds of torque, which is 115* turn after 37 pounds. That seemed a bit much, and inhibited the crank from moving.
Thanks for the help :)

Go buy a degree dial and do it the right way if it calls for it. Going buy the torque wrench will screw it up. Also get some plastigage and use it on the crank and rod bearings. If a bearing is to tight it will tell you which one so you can fix the problem.

Plastigage is a cheap tool that could save a catastrophic failure, and it sounds like you might have a problem.

Yea I bought some plastigage, maybe I read it wrong and I'll have to go through from square one. Time to clean off all those journals lol

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2

I am getting tons of info from everywhere, to include writeups from rpm-mustangs.com it was a v6 site but the guy shut down, but still keeps the writeups on there ha.

I sold the wheels with worn out tires for 200 to a girl who had just bought a 95 v6 vert, she was very hot I might add, I was sad to see the wheels be put on another mustang, but I needed them gone ;)
Ended up getting mine with rubber to roll around on for 325, some sanding and painting and new rubber later I am happy :D

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2

Spent the day getting some stuff done yesterday.

Re-plastigaged the crank, bought a new torque wrench to get stuff better gauged lol.
Also, because it's an F-150 motor, I am having a bit of a time deciding which torque specs to use, that on the Mustang or the truck, mostly sticking to the truck specs though, because everything for the crank is what makes the truck motor different than the Mustang.

Got the rods and pistons in, new 218/226 .500 lift cam, new lifters (going to take them out and soak them some today, my dad told me to) timing chain and balance shaft etc.
Did not get as many pics as I wanted because I was doing the work lol, but a little bit to feed some needs.
THanks for the compliments guys :)

Another look at the block :D

That whole bottom side :)

I should get some more pics today, getting the heads on and all I hope, have an issue with the bolts for the rockers. A few are stripped so I have to get new ones =/
O well, gotta pay to play.
