Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2 (New Years Eve Update)

I have had a few things to deal with ha. Took everything back off the front, and put it all on again. I am a nut about double checking myself.

I need to buy two of the studs for the front of the motor, I thought we lost them in my garage, but upon looking at day 1 pictures, they were just never there. So I can't button that up until I can find some lol.
Otherwise I am just making sure I have money in the bank before I buy the intakes. I will also have to check pushrod length, hoping I don't need new ones though :D
Other things to buy still: New pan, starter, power steering, poly motor mounts. Basic engine swap stuff.
Found a guy who will rebuild my trans to stock for cheap, going to see if we can upgrade a few things in it, and maybe put a taller 5th gear in because I am on the high way a good deal. Also LSD and 3.45 gears will be in :)

Plans, but trust me, when I say it will happen it will. Just takes time. I really appreciate the interest :D

Thats the whole idea :D

Probably ordering the lower intake this week, just gotta take mine apart. ok, so I'm sending it to super six to have them work their magic on it, same difference lol.

What intake are you going with? Windstar intake?

For the upper yes I am doing the windstar upper from vap auto. That's a couple paychecks away haha.

Then the motor itself is pretty much done, besides accessories (power steering, starter, etc.)

Then I will buy a rear end rebuild kit, lsd, and gears, and save some more for tranny rebuild.

when I pull motor and tranny, take the trans to get it rebuilt and while its out rebuild the rear.
There are going to be some big changes :D

I use the copper spray on all gaskets that arent rubber or plastic. Like head gaskets, intake gaskets, exhaust gaskets and depends on the oil pan gasket material. I know many people that do the same. It will help keep a seal better and wont breakdown due to water and oil.

I have coated the head bolts/studs, but its better to just use a molly lube on the head bolts.

You are good to go.

Thanks for the input man! :) I hope it all works out, I'll be disappointed if something like a head gasket blows.

Looks like I am getting a raise which just means my car will be done sooner :)

If somebody from the engine shop said to use it then o.k. I have been doing engines for a long time, and I have never heard anybody recomend sealer on a head gasket. It has always been a no no.

+1, but i guess if a V6 expert told him to.... .. .. :-/

i think i will build a V6 mustang next.... i like the idea of blowing up a $50.00 engine if i do something wrong instead of . .. ... something more expensive. lol.

the only thing ive built are chevy 350s... and those are about as easy as they come.. ... mind you i had help. this v6 build looks like a fun way to run-a-muck without having someone staring over your shoulder.

Well, I am expecting to put down more than the stock v8 new edges did, and weigh less. if it was boosted it would be insane, but maybe in the future when I have another car I can rely on :)

I really appreciate the comments guys :D

Ha ;p

Drive to florida and I'll take you where you need to go lol.

Sent out my lower intake to super six today, should be a couple weeks then I get it back, then I should be able to afford the upper intake.
Also got to work hacking away stupid stuff on a bracket and polishing it. No pics yet because it's not yet done. Was just going to paint a gunmetal color, dad really wants polished aluminum...you know how it is ;p

Hope everyone has a good weekend :)
