If you are using a truck motor, use the truck specs.

Dad is right, soak the lifters. While they are submerged in oil, use a push rod and push down the plunger a couple times. That will help get the air out.

I love the powder coated CAI

Matt, I told him what you said, he said your a genius :)
Thanks for all the help, you really know your stuff.
I have a question though, because its going to be a while before I can drop the motor in, dad thinks we should leave them to soak until its almost time, then finish the assembly of the top slap the accesories on and drop her in. Just so the lifters stay pumped up.
Again, I appreciate all the info, just trying to do this thing right since it is my daily.
It's now just going to be a daily with like 100 more hp :)

goodwork, but why not just go to a v8?

all the trouble and money building a 4.2-4.3 h/c/i stroker v6 , that when your average bolt on cammed 96-98 4.6/or 87-95 5.0 v8 will make same or more power and tons more torque and have the v8 sound. to each there own I guess? imagine the power and torque you would make with a stroker v8 h/c/i your talking 270-400rwhp, what a h/c/i 4.3 stroker v6 a whopping 200-250rwhp and no torque>? when a stock 99-10 gt will make that power or more

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2 (New Years Eve Update)

Easier to do this than swap in an 8, easier to start with an 8 platform.

It's lighter up front than an 8, less weight to throw around, I like auto cross over drag.
Also doing it because it's unique, it will take people buy surprise, and then I will tell them its just a 6 and they would be embarassed.
Plus, with boost I could be in the 400's, but its my only car and its a daily, and I drive 45 miles a day.
Not wanting to boost it now.
I should still have about 250 torque down, the '11 6's probably put down about 250 to the ground, maybe 270. But weigh more.

I have gotten a lot of criticism for doing this, it's something fun for me.

true, I would like to see a new 2011 v6 swap when you can make that power with just a stock 3.7

Yea, on V6 power someone is talking about it, but the crate motor is too expensive.
The 5.0 is just a little more expensive, but the two are hardly comparable.
The 8 hardly even weighs more than the 6, and makes more power and has more potential.

I'm sure that argument could be made about what I'm doing, but it's different. Around where I live, I can honestly say there is no 4.3 mustang :)

Thanks, I have been playing with engines for a long time.

You could wait to put the top end together. I personally like to close them up. Keeps things clean that way.

I thought it would be fine to put it all together, but dad things the lifters will lose their pressure or something.
I am not following everything he was trying to say.
I wanted to get it all closed up too, so I can determine if I need new push rods.

Oil will be squeezed out of the lifters that are compressed, and will not refill due to no oil presure. But it really makes no difference because when you rotate the engine to adjust the valves the oil will be pushed out. The main thing is just getting oil in them before start up, so they are not totally dry.

I slapped the thing together ;)

Permatex'd the head gaskets and the bolts, got the rockers snug.

Maybe I will have time to upload some pics tomorrow :)

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2 (New Years Eve Update)

The guy from RPM said to use it (redlined performance mustangs, specialty v6 mustang shop) in his instructions on assemlbing a long block. I don't see how it would hurt anything, please enlighten me though.
Hope I didn't make a boo boo =/

anyways, heres pics:

If somebody from the engine shop said to use it then o.k. I have been doing engines for a long time, and I have never heard anybody recomend sealer on a head gasket. It has always been a no no.

Re: G36 Monkey's 1999 3.8, Swapping in a 4.2 (New Years Eve Update)

O boy, let's hope its ok.

From what I understand the permatex I used is more of just a copper to help spread the heat out.
That's what the can said at least.

I will remember that you told me so if it goes bad.
So you will get to say "I told you so" :)
