Long story short my 2v stock gt motor was on its way out soo i decided to pull it out and replace it.. I wanted to do the 99 up 2v but could not find a good deal on one $800 and up.. So i picked up this 98 Mark8 4v motor for $600 shipped.. I went with the 97-98 mark8 motor so i could use the intake manifold and keep things cheap(cobra manifold and throttle cable run around $500 after its said and done)

The parts i have so far are
-complete 98 mark 8 engine
-96-98 cobra exhuast manifolds(with gaskets)
- King cobra clutch kit

Parts i still need/ im unsure about
Stock gt motor mount (mine is trashed)
oil pickup tube (not sure if i can use my 2v one or if i need a 4v, ive heard mix reviews
I also need to epoxy my IMRC since im deleting them

Ive taken the intake manfiold off the new 4v and took apart the IMRC.. from the looks of the motors and butterflys the car rarely seen 3k and up.. The goal is to keep the swap under $1000.. so far im up to $800 wtih the new clutch (old one didnt look very good)

here is some pics, if anyone has any advise or needs any info feel free to post..

Out with the 2v (left the trani in hoping i can get the new motor in that way, if not i will have to slide it out )

good luck with the swap! Personally I would have used the 4v shortblock and put 2v heads on it. Hello compression and power! Best of luck anyhow!

Neat swap!

But I always wanted to but a MK8 motor in the FRONT of my toyota truck..

Hehehe.

On a serious note, is your GT coil on plugs? I thought the early ones had coil packs? Just wondering if you'll have ignition issues.

Well im not sure how much you know about the 4v but they have IMRC (intake manifold runner control) and it keeps half of the ports closed till about 3k rpms for low end torq.. well these butterflys and valves them sells have alot of build up on them which means they have been close and not used... so YES you can tell it hasnt been rev'd much.. Make sense???

If you want to keep it simple 93-96 Marks had coils like your 2V. I just don't know if the 97-98 timing cover has holes drilled for the coil bracket.

Looking good so far, but I doubt you're going to be able to do it for under $1000 since you're already at $800. From what I can see you still need a cobra intake manifold and an intake tube, have you got a throttle cable yet? Or any of the coolant lines and the thermostat housing? and you'll have to figure out what you want to do as far as your plugs, either buy a set of cobra spark plug wires and get a set of 96-98 cobra valve covers or do the COP conversion. I will say that on my 4v swap I kept the 2v wiring harness and coil packs and picked up a set of 96-98 cobra wires and valve covers. The coil pack brackets bolted right up like yours did, no issues there. Also do you plan on a set of 96-98 cobra cams? they're getting more expensive here lately for a set. Any other questions just fire away

Im keeping the stock mark8 intake manifold.. i just dont see the point of spending $500 on the intake manifold tb cable ect for the extra 10-15hp it gives.. This is my dd so im trying to keep it cheap.. are the 96-98 cobra wires longer then the 2v?? Do you have ny pics of your under you good for some insperation lol

I have these old pics, my engine bay needs some serious attention. The wires themselves i don't think are longer but you'll need the longer boots that they have, since the plugs are in the middle of the head. Also mine is a c-headed car so not sure how much this will help
