fuel pump? there is a fuel pump cut off that will go if you get in a accident, in your trunk on the drives side i belive there should be a little button on a harness, try pressing that.

when you turn your key on (but dont quite start the car) do you hear your fuel pump humm? should be fairly noticable.

Also this happened to me once, turned out to be a bad battery connection, follow your battery connections to make sure there well attached, the one that got me was the one off the positive that goes to the little block by your underhood fuses.

You can hear the pump and the car runs fine until it gets hot. Then runs terabile. It idels at almost 200 rpms and when you hit the throttle it dies. My buddy witch is a mechanic thinks its a sensor but isn't sure..

The above statement tells me your mechanic is on the right track....

Sounds like the distributor stator (hall effect sensor) is going bad. If the car will start up and idle fine after it cools off, I'd bet money that the problem. The part cost like 40 bucks from Ford maybe less than 25 at Napa or wherever else you like to go. But I like OEM for stuff like that.

It could be any number of sensors but you say it temp related. I'd check the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor in the front passenger side of the intake. This sends the coolant temp signal to the ECU. Again though, It could be any of the cheaper sensors...its a simple and cheap (cheap meaning under $200) to fix problem I'm sure....you just gotta find it.

When the car cuts off does it just stumble and then die or is it like somebody flipped an on/off switch and the motor just stops?

Its stumbles then finally cuts out. It will start back but only idle at like 200 rmp and when you hit the gas it cuts out. Im stumped... :-\

It can be any of at least 5 things, and that is what makes trouble shooting difficult on modern cars.

You have an On Board Diagnostics system, use it. Plug in a code reader for codes for a place to start at after checking all the obvious things (loose connections, etc.)

Before condemning a part and spending the money on it to replace it only to find there was nothing wrong with it find out the resistance spec's for the part either online or at the library, then take an ohms reading to see if the part is good or not. You can also use your volt/ohms meter to check circuits. It is your eyes into your electrical system. This is much more effective, and cheaper, than pot-shotting the cause.

Hmm sounds like a MAF problem too... Pull the codes and see what it says.

Yup.

Check the resistance and see if it is in spec. Pretty simple.

So even if i can hear it whine. It could still be bad?

Is that still the original pump in there? If so, just replace it... you've gotten your money out of it.
If it cures the problem, great. If not, at least you know you probably wont get stranded by a fuel pump failure.

Checked the fuel pres today...It was all correct...Right at 36 i believe.

Was the pump hot or was the car doing its thing when you checked it?
