So basically I installed my AUto Meter Water Temp Guage, the electric one, and I thought everything was okay. When I was driving everything was peachy but when I stopped, it went to 250 and then it boiled over. My thing is my fan now does not switch on because the old sensor is now out of the block. This is because I replaced the stock one because I dont care if my in car guage doesnt work. Anyway so I think because I removed the old sensor, and the harness to that sensor ran the voltage and another ground, and the old harness / sensor isnt grounded so the fan cant kick on. But I dont know! PLEASE HELP ME! Im in phoenix and my cars broken... I live 100 miles away and I need to get home tonight!

If your car is unable to determine engine coolant temp, it has no way of determining when to turn the ignition fan on. While you're driving, the airflow across the engine from wind is cooling the radiator, but while stopped - you're in trouble. One way to bypass this for the time being is to "jump" the A/C switch so the car thinks the A/C is always on, which should turn your fan on.

Bottom line, you need to reinstall the ECT sensor and associated wiring, and relocate your Autometer sending unit to an unused location on your intake manifold, or other spot like your t-stat or block.

Paul.

Okay, so i reinstalled the old one and it worked fine. But now here is the question. Where is the extra hole in the intake to put in the sensor? Also I have another question. Does a SN upper fit a Fox Lower Intake?

I could have sworn that one of the coolant temp sensors was only for the gauge, and the one in the front by the T-Stat was the one that was the only coolant temp sensor that communicated with the computer. Which coolant temp sensor did you replace with the new gauge?

The only holes in the intake i know of are on the 2 back corners and the drivers front corner (where the sensor is located), and yes, sn95 intakes fit, but the TB's are different, meaning the throttle cable ect are different also

There are 3/8" NPT holes in all four corners of the 5.0 lower intake manifolds. The t-stat housing can be tapped as well.

Okay, I took the STOCK sensor out. That is what caused my fan from not working. And Paul, can you please send me a picture of an sn95 5.0 lower to show me the holes? Because when we looked they looked capped off. Not with a plug but completely covered. My buddies Lower from his FOX has the holes in it, but like I said it looks different. But if thats the case cant I just use his lower on my upper intake?

I won't even be home until tomorrow really late. I might be able to snap a picture Thursday night. However, they would only be of aftermarket manifolds - I don't have any cars with OEM manifolds.

i have my autometer temp sender in the lower intake on the front drivers side. I was thinking it was actually where the stock sending unit was. i took out the stock sender and my fan works perfectly fine. i was gonna double check today but i forgot. u sure you took out the right one?

Isnt there only one sensor there? Its right by the drivers side fuel rail in the lower manifold..... Thats the one I removed...

ya that is the one im pretty sure. i put in the sender for the autometer gauge and didnt put the stock on back in and the fan works fine. i remember the stock wire was red and had a 90 degree end on it. im pretty sure that does not control the fan.

Thats the one for the gauge...Yes. THe one for the ECU is on the passenger side where the two black heater hoses go. You should have been fine. Is your lower stock or has someone else messed with the sensor locations? If you have a fox lower for whatever reason...the original installer may have hooked it up to his own liking. Like paul said though, there is more than one spot on the lower you can put the autometer sending unit. Just relocate it and ride out! No big deal man....don't stress.

Hrm... Maybe I just did not look hard enough. :crazy2: Ill take a peek at it to see where the other holes are.

In regards to that, mine had a plug sensor in it with two wires. A black and a Red. In my own little head, i thought the red was the one that sent the voltage and the black was a ground that when the engine read to a certain point it would ground out and then send the fan on. Hence the reason when I took it out, the black wire would never have been grounded.

The lower is stock but what I was reffering to was that I could not find the holes on my lower, but when we peaked at a fox stock lower we saw the holes.

Yeah if you pulled the one with two wires to it, you pulled the wrong one.

So yeah. i fixed it. I did pull the wrong one, but almost all the stuff I read said the passenger fuel rail, not the driver fuel rail like where it was located. If you are lookin at the engine from the front its right behind the distributor cap, kinda top right. So yeah problem solved.....
