no. Simply bolting it on the block will not net you any realistic hp with a completely stock set up but if you plan on opening things up later it is a good start and one of my first purchases. I am currently polishing one, total PIA but bad-ass lookin...

Yes Bub, there is a noticeable gain. Upper RPM power feels like night and day difference.

This is step one to modding a 5.0, ditch the crappy stock intake. Whether it's a Fox or SN. I bet I have my 1/4 mile ET and trap speeds of before and after an intake swap.

Anyway, do it. Just remember that your stock strut tower brace will not fit, and it's easier to use an SN GT40 than a Fox/Explorer GT40.

I would love to see some time/dyno slips on the car before after. I have heard the explorer while they are similar that they do not flow as well as the cobra funny enough... I didn't feel any difference when I put mine on but there are those people that feel the 3hp a filter swap gives them.

Go for it if you have plans for the engine later on. I was disappointed when I did the swap on a stock engine. There was a noticeable decrease in lower rpm torque and throttle response, so the small increase in the upper rpm was to me not worth the decrease in stop light to stop light power. Once I got the GT40 heads on I was much happier.

The plan is to eventually get the Windsor SR heads my buddy is upgrading to Trickflows im more or less interested in seeing if i can bolt this on and see gains for a car that is a Sunday cruiser

You guys are killin me.

Anyway: Stock 86 GT, AOD, 3:27 gears.

Baseline run: 17.10 @ 83mph
Cobra intake: 16.63 @ 85
Headers and pulleys: 16.25 @ 86

These are at 5800ft, so it probably seems like you could run faster to you sea level guys, lol.

On the spray, 100 dry shot, 14.1 @ 98 was the best ET/speed. Then I sold this one for a 86 Saleen. That one was a 5 speed with 3:08 gears.

With just Cobra Intake, headers, of road H, and Flowmaster cat back, it went 15.26, don't have the mph. That one is a 5 speed tho.

No Way!

Rich,

Your Kyles buddy right? W the super clean red SVO?

Ive met you before, with Kyle. Infact I ended up owning that white 86 you speak of when I was in Denver. (it really liked a 5 speed swap)

I did get a 16.1 at Bandimere with that car, (the times and altitude made me think this was WAY to similar...

Anyways, To the OP.

My 94 was gt40s, headers, exhaust, a9L computer, short belt, and a stock intake. One night I did a explorer intake (that I heavily ported the lower) and fox tb swap and the car REALLY came alive. Will it be good for a stock motor, yep. Will it be good for a modified headed car, hell yea.

The night I got it on...http://s1012.photobucket.com/albums/af244/raffaelli_photos/Stang/?action=view&current=DSCF0479.mp4

Yessir that would be me!
I had that 86 for about a year, then sold it to Kyle. I still have a door off it at my shop.

Small world!
