unfortunately K&N doesnt make one of the Black CAI's for our V6's. i love the way they look too. American Muscle just started offering a black Cold Air Intake from a brand called Stack Racing. it looks the same as the cheap chrome ones, but black

Yea i bought that one and i returned it right away. I took it out of the bubble wrap and it was scratched up there was chrome spots and where it bolts up to the Air flow sensor one of the corners was bent. Real nice but i though to myself i rather spent 10 bucks more to get the BBK that's street legal and is already chrome.

The funny thing is that pretty much many people don't know is that there is parts in Northern CA where the cars never have to get smog. My stang is registered in a county where i don't have to smog it. (5 miles from where i live.) lol So I can't say i remembrance the last time my stang got smogged. So the CARB number isn't really a issue to me.

oh, i have never had to worry about any kind of emissions testing. florida has none at all

yeah, i cant think of any other black ones that would fit a 94-98. the only thing i could think of is to get a cheap chrome one, scuff it down with some 2000 grit sand paper and hit it with some black High-temperature paint

What i really like about the K&N is that they are made of like plastic so they don't get hot like that aluminum ones.

eh, the air flows through the tubes so fast that the transfer of heat doesnt really have time to take place.

take a hot pipe (dont burn yourself) and blow cold air through it and feel the air coming out. i highly doubt it will be hot air.

and remember, the metal ones also shed heat faster too. the plastic will get hot, it isnt immune to becoming hot just because it is plastic.

the intake manifold on my father's 2007 V6 mustang is made out of composite plastic and it gets just as hot as the rest of the engine

just get anyone you want and spray it black. look at this for example. the heatshield was chrome, painted black... and it held up fairly well. just an idea.

MAC and BBK are pretty much your best CAI options for a 94-98. I will say this much though, don't do a CAI cheapo brand (ebay). I did that with my old 98 sixer I had, worst decision ever. I have a BBK on my 5.0 and love it, I would put one on my Cobra, but I have the good old K&N air filter with silencer delete, so I'm good to go lol.
