Is it worth it?

Hey guys,
So I sat down and started thinking about it, is it worth to fix/build my sixxer? As it sits right now it needs suspension, starter?, exhaust, possible tranny work, steering components, parking brake, body work, and other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Now I know most of this is regular maintenance, but that;s gonna be a decent chunk of change to get done, and my car is coming up on 162k. My dream was to slowly build it up with junkyard parts and make a v6 that would shut up all the haters, but I don't know how realistic that goal is anymore. I've been doing some research and, I could sell it somewhere around 3k, and I have about $1000 saved up. I was thinking about buying another mustang, but a v8 because I want more power, or maybe going for an older sn95 or fox (BIG maybe) that is built up a bit. I'm not really sure what to do at this point and I'm just looking for a bit of feedback, so what do you guys think I should do?

Was your plans for the v6 to keep forever or just having a toy for awhile. If its something you're planning to have long term then I'd keep going on your project. It will always be worth it if its something you enjoy. Personally I think a built up v6 is cooler than your average nearly stock gt...

The money I put into mine (refer to my build thread to see original shape) I could have bought a gt or even a cobra. But I don't regret it at all. Its my car, its one of kind. The car is basically a reflection of myself. Sure I get the "why did you do that to a v6", well why not? Its something different.

Haha, that was quick! I had this posted on another forum I'm on for a day now and no response. So its pretty apparent the gt is the way to go, but I really do enjoy my car, I just want it to be quicker!

It all comes back to what you really want. If you want to build a V6, go for it. People might not like it but I can just about gurantee the next motor to go in my 95 GT will either be a built 2.3T or a LS motor, so just do what you want. There's no better time to upgrade than when stuff breaks too.

If you'd rather build a V6 and be a little on the different side, then go for it. If you want to start with a quicker car and have the rumble of a V8, do that. It's all up to you.

But personally I'd go with the 94-95 GT. Can't beat the 5.oh! Except with a LS... Or maybe a 2.3T...

That was and still is the dream, I just wanted to build up something unique that will make people have to look twice at and say "that's a v6?". I just don't have the money for that right now, which is why I'm at a divide. I was also thinking of selling mine and picking up another with less miles and in better shape to build up, but I don't know.

What year is it? I have a hard time seeing a V6 go for 3k with all that work needing to be done. I got my car for $2600 at 165k.

I've built the V6 and love it to death. Though you will catch a lot of crap for it.

If a V8 is in your budget, you can go for it. Do what makes the most sense to you.

Mileage isn't an issue, build a motor lol. Takes away all the stress. Check out my build thread in my sig.

Well if that's your dream than i think you should keep with it! If you don't have the money they just slowly keep working on it (unless its your daily). It might also be a good idea to sell and try to start with a better vehicle, depends what you want to do.

It would likely be cheaper to start off with a gt, but it seems like you want to go with the uniqueness of a v6. I think you'll really have to decide between time/money and your dream.

First I gotta say, I love your car. It was my inspiration to build up mine :D

It's a 2000, and I had someone offered me 3k for it and he's waiting for my response, but maybe I should clarify on the repairs. My shocks and struts are factory and they're completely blown so those need to be changed. I have a decent sized exhaust leak coming from the left side; it was cracked at the flange but somebody thought it was a good idea to weld the midpipe to the manifold and do a half assed job so that whole piece needs to be replaced. Whenever I turn my wheel all the way to either side, there is a loud pop that comes from the side, and it pops again when I hit the brakes hard. I'm pretty sure its the tie rods. Sometimes when I try to put my car in reverse, it doesn't fully engage and just makes this grinding noise until I throw it in neutral. And sometimes when I down shift to 1st, it doesn't want to go in and gives me resistance and pops out I guess you could say. Gear synchros maybe? Recently its been taking longer and longer for my car to crank on a cold start. And body work is pretty self explanitory, it was beat when I got it from the last owner, I,ve done my best to bring back the paint.

And Orange94, it is my daily so that's a bit of an issue haha

unless youre a gear head just looking for a toy to tinker with, hunt down a V8. stronger aftermarket, cheaper parts, used parts. etc.

Tie rods and ball joints, shocks and struts. All that can be done in a day pretty easy.

Spark plugs and wires could probably go for a change, and yea, the manifolds are notorious for cracking on these cars. But any reputable exhaust shop could get it fixed up for you in no time!

And thank you for the kind words. It's been 5 years in the making, and it's close to where I want it to be now :)

Don't be so hasty Chris! cams are dime a dozen for these cars, heads, are cheap too, because realistically any machine shop can port and polish them, and they are already aluminum to start with. the blocks nor cranks break. rods and pistons you just have to get measurements for, but scat and ross already make kits for them. I've gotten tons of parts used.

what else do you need to change? add a blower? or turbo? good options there too :)

not trying to be a "v6 nutswinger" but they have grown a lot more than they were when I first started building. Everything is much cheaper these days ha!

MustangChris, yeah I guess you could say I'm a gear head, I love wrenching on my car and I'm at he junkyard every time there's a sale finding parts to stick on my car :D

g36 monkey, I replaced the plugs 2 months ago, so I'm pretty sure its not that. As for the tie rods and ball joints those pretty much go hand in handso if im keeping it i was gonna get a bump steer kit with the ball joints so itll be ready when I lower it
