and I know I might be barking up the wrong "E-Tree..."

I was on craigslist looking at Mustangs earlier, and lately I've been looking at some nice Fox-bodies that have appeared at reasonable prices.

They jogged my memory back to my dad's 5.0's.

The last of his 5.0's, a black '88 GT, was the car I learned to drive stick on- and one time, before he sold it, he let me take it out by myself. (I was 18 at the time, he had good reason not to trust me, lol)

So, drawing from past memory and knowledge:

Assuming I was to find a well-kept one... and this is a BIG assumption, we know the fate most of these cars suffer...

Good: parts are cheap, car is mechanically simple/mostly easy to work on. Comfortable seats, I liked how the thigh bolster could be extended out (pretty sure this was decontented later). I liked how 5.0 torque hits a bit sooner than 4.6 torque (it's a "feel" thing). I know the engines are mostly durable if well-maintained, the T5's can be a weak link. They're definitely crude in feel vs the later SN95's but that's fine with me, I like that "attitude."

Bad: Finding a decent Fox is like finding the Holy Grail. That and for DD purposes, rear drums = fail on anything with power.

I'm fully aware of the fact that the newest Fox bodies are nearly 20 years old- age is just a number, right? Lol... Does anyone know of anybody who DD's a Fox? Good or bad idea, should I just wait and get an '04 when my time comes?

I'm not big on foxes other than for racing. But if someone offered to trade a notch for my 95 I'd probably do it if it was in good enough shape

Alright, after some thought and deliberation, maybe I should just stick with the original plan of an '04 GT. At least finding a nice, unmolested one of those isn't virtually impossible!

for a track star, id want a fox. for said reasons.
for a dd, yea id get that 04. i had a fox, and through no fault of Ford, it was a royal pain in my ass.
about one day a month it would HAUL ASS (this thing was built). the other 29 days, it would sputter, stall, piss me off, smoke, overheat, u name if. thats if it even decided to start.

I don't see many clean Fox's around anymore so when I do it really stands out. Today at the gas station I was next to one and it was perfect. A 93 LX with a Blown 351. After talking with the owner he started it up and the lumpy idle was like drugs but the old style Vortec T trim had the non quiet cut gears so it screached like a banshee and just sounded bad ass!

I still love fox's. I miss mine at times. Its hard to find really clean ones these days most have been abused. Try to find a stock one, a coupe id say.

Fox's feel like driving a muscle car imo, its light, feels fairly cheaply put together has a lot of power for the weight. They rattle, brakes are terrible but they can be fixed with a 5 lug swap and SN95 brakes. Other then that they are good cars.
