FINALLY got my Deep Forrest Green ’96 GT convertible back from the shop. I bought it in Feb and had only driven it twice, so glad to have it back again. Thought I’d start a build thread so I can post the improvement progress, bit by bit.

So far this is what’s been done:

Swapped engines, went from a NPI with over 200,xxx miles to a 2001 with 66,XXX miles. The shop did a lot of work on it, all the hoses and clamps were replaced as was the water pump. Got a deal and they did Dyno tune for $300. It runs great!

Had two hi-flow catalytic converters installed on the Flowmaster 440 off road exhaust so the car would be legal and pass inspection. It also cut down on the very loud exhaust growl – now it’s just loud

Purchased a Cobra instrument cluster and installed it, looks terrific. Also got a ’04 black Cobra steering wheel to replace the worn out saddle wheel and seat track extenders for when I get new seats.

The headlights are old and cloudy, so got new Black Cobra Style from AM. The kid who had the car before me put on crappy tail lights so I’m going to have to buy some stock replacements soon, one already has a crack in it.

Next on the update list is a new convertible top, the one that’s on doesn’t leak but it’s in bad shape. I’m thinking black.

After that in no particular order:

H.O. Fibertrends 1995 Cobra R hood
Saleen S281 Style Rear Spoiler
New seats - black
New black carpet to replace the saddle
Lowering - including new shocks, struts
Paint – looking at changing from Deep Forrest Green to Sapphire Blue

Guess I’ve got to get a second job!

+1 on changing the taillights. Why change the green? I think it looks good on the SN95s.

I know that green is not a common color, but since learning to drive this is my THIRD green car! My current daily driver is a light green Ford Escape and since the paint on the Mustang is very faded and needs to be redone, I'm thinking about changing color. I LOVE black but every Mustang in the Richmond area seems to be that paint job, and after owning a jet black Escort I'll never take on that trouble to keep it shiny again.

Right now I'm infatuated with the Sapphire blue color, but who knows. By the time I get the money saved it might be Competition Orange.

I'm partial to black, but that is what I have. Keep up updated.

I think you should keep the green! Also if you want to get any ideas my project is pretty similar to your car!

Thanks for the link, your car's progress is inspiring me! OK, after much consideration I'm staying with green - but might change from Deep Forest to Fairway Green. That's a GM color that was only used in 97-98' and I've ordered a touch-up sample to check it out. Deep Forest is too dark for my taste, and I really don't care for Electric Green. Pacific Green is nice but there are too many older cars from the '90s that have that color riding around Richmond right now.

I had hoped to get more done today, but since the seat screws won't come out I couldn't get the new used seats in yet. But I did put on the new headlights and the original style used tail lights. She's starting to look a bit Frankenstein with the color mismatch, but oh well.

Out with the rice:

And back to original style:

Sorry for the crappy pic of the headlights, it's dark out now and the garage is so messy:
