I found two T5 cores in the shed, and the part numbers corrospond to a 94 GT. I'm now trying to work out their application. The internet is filled with speculation and contradictions, so hopefully someone here can answer everything nice and simply.

For the purposes of my discussion, there are 4 types of T5:

8*-93
94-95 GT
94-98 V6
99-04 V6

Now, I believe the up to 93 GT trans is roughly of the same internals as its modern counterpart, but has a different input shaft which is 3/4 inch shorter than 94 up. It also has a different bellhousing. Any other differences?

Is there a difference between the 94-95 GT and the 94-98 V6?

Does the 99-04 fit? I heard you have to change the tailhousing for the VSS, is that it?

In short, what can I stick these transmissions in to?

The V6 94-98/99-04 is not as strong and will not last with a small block 302.

The Fox and 94/95 Bell is the same, the only difference is the input like you mentioned.

If you're looking to make any serious power than you need to look into G Force/Astro T5 transmissions.

I've read the 94-04 V6 T5 is rated for 300 ft/lb, just like the 5.0 Fox's. It's insignificant though, as I might as well cater to the SN market without having to pay for a new input shaft.

I'm not looking to make any power, I'm looking to have these rebuilt and sell them.

I thought the fox body and 94/95 bell housings were different, otherwise how would it work with the longer input shaft on the 94/95s?

I've always been told that the actual T-5 transmission is the same between the '94-'95 5.0's and the '94+ 3.8's... the only difference was that the V6 ones have "3.8L" stamped (molded?) on the bellhousing, and the V8 says "5.0L"...

This site tells a brief history of the T-5. I haven't read it all completely yet, but it probably has the answers you want in it.

I've read that article and it did help with a few answers, but the I'm still not sure if a 94-95 5.0 T-5 will work with a 94-98 V6 T-5.

I have a V6 T5 behind the 5.0 in my 95. Its holding up fine, probably because I dont beat the shit out of my car.

Along with the TQ rating difference between the 5.0L and V6 T5, there are slight gear ratio differences as well.
