They have B heads, cast 6 bolt cranks, a different intake (Unless it's a 97), and different cams.

The intake cams are the same as the cobra, but the exhaust cams are detuned for exhaust volume. The intake manifold is diffrent and designed to make power I believe around the 1500-5500 rpm range. Otherwise the engines are the same as the other B-series 4-valves.

the 97 has the same intake as the B-headed cobra's?

They are also rated at 285 fwhp, instead of 305 fwhp.
is this because of compression or something else?

mainly due to exhaust and the intake

I just read in a magazine this weekend, the Mark VIII 4.6 engines were Italian sourced, all aluminum blocks capable of handling 900 HP.

Stock iron blocks are good to 600 or more rwhp. The price people are getting for bare Teskids doesn't justify them, IMO.

I only had one because I got it in a complete Mark VIII car that I got paid 50 bucks to haul off :dancing6:

The mark8 motor I used in my `97 is basically a B headed cobra motor, with SOHC GT internals.

I swapped the intake manifold/IMRC plates and exhaust manifolds from a `96 cobra onto mine and it runs just like a `96-`98 cobra with IMRC deletes, it was a very easy motor swap compared to the last one I did (`95 bmw e36 318is -> `95 bmw e36 m3).

lots of potential in the mark8 swap, it cost me nothing to do the motor swap, as I parted the mark8 out that I bought for more money than I spent on anything :hammer:

hey Jr, dont you mean the internals of a stock iron block? i thought the block itself could withstand 900 HP roughly? or did i misread that somewhere...

No, the block itself. The iron GT block, not the iron Cobra block, around 6-700 rwhp a GT block will split.
