My odometer is not working what could be wrong?

I was just on my way home and noticed my trip meter was still on 0 from when i just filled my tank up, i hit the reset button a few times to see if that would fix it and it didnt then i drove a little more and realized my odometer wasnt working either. All the guages are working fine so what could be causing my mileage to not work?

Reach under your car and fiddle with your speed sensor that's sticking out of your transmission. It's probably worked its way out a little. Or of course gone bad, mine would do that every once in a blue moon.

could it be the speed sensor though since the speedometer still works and so do the rest of the guages? its only the odometer and trip meter that are not working

My bet is the gear in your cluster. Pull the guage cluster and have a look/see.

When you look at your exsisting gear, there will be teeth missing on the gear. I think there's a thread, let me look...

yea i just pulled it apart. there is only a few teeth left on the gear. it is so brittle i barely touched it to turn it and like 5 teeth fail off. thanks for the help guys im going to order a gear tonight. where would have it the cheapest

shit i didnt think about that i just wasted money on the kit from late model restoration. well now i just called them and canceled the order cause there is one on ebay for $28 and its here in GA so i should get it soon

When you have the odo. out take extra care NOT to move any of the numbers on the odo. around.
When you get emission tested a report is sent to the DMV and it has the car milage on it. Any sign of a roll back and it'll throw a huge flag up when you try to sell the car.
And Odometer roll back is illegal.

i did at first then i saw one for cheap on ebay so i canceled the order from late model and ordered the one from ebay. it was cheaper, they had good feedback, and it is located here in ga so i will get it monday most likely

Why? It's not like the ebay sellers are making cheap knockoffs of speedo gears, I'm positive it's the same part LMR sells but with less markup

exactly mr joekd. i have bought so much from ebay thats the same as what a company sales. my smoked headlight and corners are the axact ones american muscle sale for 150, but on ebay with shipping i payed 90.
