Need cam, will travel

I should have my all forged 408 SVO short block back later this month. I'm puttin ProComp 210cc heads (specs on these later, I bought them bare and had much, much better parts installed) with an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake/75 mm throttle body combo (yes, i know it's gonna choke the engine but it's my daily driver, I'll upgrade to something bigger when I get bored with it) on top and I'm a bit lost choosing a camshaft. I want something that will be great in the 3000-6500 rpm range. AFM said I should use their N71 cam... I basically want an opinion from someone who has experience with big inch windsors... (Paul?)

The SVO block is roller, right?

I'd suggest some of the largest of Comp's Xtreme Energy line, or larger Anderson cams, or best case scenario - a custom cam from Ed Curtis, Cammotion, etc...

I have an Ed Curtis cam in my 422.

If it's your daily driver, you'll probably be happier with 2500-6000 rpm. Big Windsors make regoddamndiculous torque with ease. With a combo very similar to yours, and Lunati 51016 (.536/.536, 218/228@ .050, 112 LSA if I remember right) the car made 347/442 rwhp/tq with shorty headers and stock exhaust. It was near-stock quiet, and surprised the crap out of a lot of cars.

With my more aggressive 422, my FTI cam specs are .576/.569, 234/236 @ .050, and 114 LSA, 110 IC. It was noticeably more rowdy, but then so was my giant dual 3" exhaust with Accufab mid-lengths.

Sound advice... Yes, the svo block is a roller motor. I considered contacting FTI but I'd rather get an off-the-shelf grind for now and if/when I ever add forced induction later on, have something custom ground then.

I suppose the 2500-6000 rpm range would probably be better for my needs anyway.. I really want a good all-around cam that isn't too terribly choppy but i guess that come with the territory I've entered. It would be nice to be passed over as a run of the mill bolt on 5.0 until the light turned green

Call Ed @ FTI. If you tell him your intentions, im sure he can set you up with a grind that can work well with an NA setup as well as FI.
