Ill be taking my car to my painter in alil over a week and to keep cost down Ill be pulling some of the stuff before it goes to him. But I have a few questions on how to remove some stuff.

1. How do the sail panels come off?

2. Can the rubber trim around the windshield and rear window be removed without removing them?

3. Should I keep the running boards or ditch them?

It will be a complete color change which is partially why all this will be removed. I wasnt planning on it being painted this season but a buddy stepped up and will be doing the paint for me. If theres any other advice please feel free to post it up.

What we will be doing,
headlights, taillights removed
Sail panels removed,
rockers (running boards) removed,
belt line trim removed,
scuff plates, door sills, kick panels removed (to jam it)
front and rear bumpers will be loosened to assure coverage,
wing will be removed as well as the hood to have underside sprayed as well.

Sail panels are taken off from the inside. Just remove the interior pieces surrounding it. Keep the running boards, it doesn't look right without them.

What color/brand are you going with?

The sail panel bolts are under the headliner.
you'll need to remove the ground effects (aka running boards) so you can paint behind them too.
It'll also be easier to paint the bumpers and behind the bumpers with them removed.
The door jams need to be painted too. so the door panels will probably need to be removed too. and the scuff plates, and the weather seal around the door opening, and the weather seals at the bottom of the quarter windows.

The side skirts can look alright removed if your car is slammed and you fill in the holes. I wanted to take mine off but my car is too high in the air to pull it off.

for the love of all that looks good please paint your mirrors and door panel switch plates. an remove the rubber trim ring from the lock opening on your license plate tray before paint, i see that get painted over a lot and it's a dead give away.

Mirrors were already in the plan. All lock cylinders will be removed and the license plate section also will be removed. The door cups and radio/shifter bezels will also be painted to match.

just make sure to take off the rubber trim ring that goes in the hole in front of the lock cylander on the plate tray. also don't paint the primered area behind the license plate tray after it is remove for painting, as it should be left that way in my opinion personally

For the inside Im only doing the door cups and center radio/shifter bezels, as I dont want too much. I will be doing something with the cluster but just not with paint.

try to remove your body panel vin stickers without destroying them so you can re-apply them after the repaint, it's all in the details.

Those were mostly gone when I bought the car, BUT a friend is getting me a companies name that remakes them. But honestly for those details Im not really concerned considering my car will be far from stock so those arent a big deal.

Can I ask the theory behind this? When I get my car painted that is one of the main things I want to make sure is done. It drives me nuts that I can see just a tad bit of primer when I loo at the right angle

lol my theory behind this is old guy logic, "that's how it came from the factory". given i break this mentallity often but it makes sense in my mind when i do, but could always be argued :p

badass96 are you serious about the vin sticker reprints??? i've been trying to get people to post photos of theirs for the longest time to try and get some printed myself. do they do custom stickers with your correct vin? please post when you find more info and you would be my hero
