I'm not sure what to do now. I was bolting on lower gt40 when i heard a thump. I checked torque wrench and it moved to 40lbs. :BangHead: The heads are ported& polished C5AE-B 289 with oversized valves and dual coil springs. I just got them out of the shop for a valve job and resurface and now I have this. :crybaby2: Buying a new set of heads is ABSOLUTELY out of the question. My funds are past due exhausted.

That's off the Lower Intake manifold right ??

You might have to grind that down and add some washers to get it so it will sit snug.

Are there enough threads to still bolt the intake down? Otherwise, you'll have to have the head welded and repaired.

Always make sure to lock your torque wrench into place before messing with it. People over-tighten the crap out of stuff all the time.

Can you find someone that does mobile welding? If you take the heads off to get repaired, who knows how long it'll take for them to do it, plus the money you'll spend on gaskets. Just an idea

how long are the bolts you are using?
It looks like the bolts are not reaching the bottom of the hole and you only have 2 or 3 threads gripping the head
Are you confusing ft.lbs and in.lbs?
As a last resort if the threads are stripped you might be able to step up to the next size bolt and retap the threads.
I hate when things like that happen

I brain farted on that.
The tab still needes to be drilled and rethreaded for the heli coil. If there is enough of the tab left.

true. but after he welds it, the threads will be toast anyways, so helicoil.

that's not what I was saying.
It just doesn't look like bolts are going all the way through the tab.
ie: the tab has 7 threads but the bolts are only gripping 3 of them.

I'm having somebody come and see if they can weld it. After reading what you said, I guess longer bolts should do the trick. Hopefully after it's welded, i can have him re-thread the wholes because im sure it wont line up the way it did before.

You don't need longer bolts once it's repaired, just don't overtighten stuff anymore.

to fix that right the head has to come off. make sure you clean anything that is laying in the lifter valley so it doesnt fall down into the crankcase
